Best among the 5-peat TdF set?

Interesting Reuters article out trying to answer the question of who is best among the five (hypothetical) five-time winners of the Tour de France. Yes, Amstrong hasn't really joined their ranks, and yes, it isn't fair to compare across eras, but it's still fun to wonder how one would rank Miguel Indurain, Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx, and Lance Armstrong. The Reuters piece quotes Indurain calling Armstrong great, but not yet a Merckx, who Big Mig calls the best -- with the caveat that Merckx raced too much and wore himself out. No surprise there. Interesting Reuters article out trying to answer the question of who is best among the five
(hypothetical) five-time winners of the Tour de France. Yes, Amstrong hasn't really joined their
ranks, and yes, it isn't fair to compare across eras, but it's still fun to wonder how one would
rank Miguel Indurain, Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx, and Lance Armstrong.
The Reuters piece quotes Indurain calling Armstrong great, but not yet a Merckx, who Big Mig
calls the best -- with the caveat that Merckx raced too much and wore himself out. No surprise
there. Stephen Roche agrees, ranking the riders in this order: Merckx, Anquetil, Hinault,
Armstrong, and Indurain.

same course)? The SBS TV coverage showed a guy who they said was him (he seems to have a virtual
afro now).

Really? You're counting stage wins? Why not call failings like DNF (e.
g. don't have the balls to make it to Paris?) Lance: 3, Jaques: 2. Easy call to make, no sweat,
Lance will never be as great as Anquetil unless he wins his 6th.
