  1. Real men. Real suffering. Real selections. Thanks [censored] Pound for putting
the blood dopers on the run. Look for the new blood in the Giro and Tour
this year. Racing is finally coming back.

  2. OK.
    What was different?
Vino and Voight are both over 30 and have been winning races for 8+
    years.
Rebellin (busted for doping a few times), Boogerd (another 32+ vet),
    Bettini, Wessemen.
Sinkewitz is younger maybe, but it's pretty much the same riders.
The only reason Vino and Voight stayed off was that those guys
behind were all marking each other...
why is everyone so excited about LBL? Voight TT'ed away, with Vino
in tow, and all the stars watched each other.

    Laboratory Assistant-in-Training Lafferty,

Isn't it amazing how in Amstel Gold a huge group arrived together
at the foot of the Cauberg for a near bunch sprint, and just a
week later, after Ty-Ty's Black Monday suspension, [censored] Pound
had the dopers of the peleton so on the run that the group broke
up 60 km out! That [censored] Pound is really something, even if he
is on Lance's payroll. It couldn't have had anything to do with
the organizers adding climbs to the LBL course, no sir. And
[censored] Pound surely deserves the credit for rooting out EPO and
blood doping, more so than the scientists who develop the tests.
Oh, that handsome, clever [censored] Pound!

sorry, I have to object here.

I lived next to Maastricht for 7 years,
there are numerous hills in the southern netherlands,
    the province is called limburg.

no mountains, but hills everywhere, when i watched
the amstel gold race live on the road i saw groups breaking up
    very, very often.

They started racing from the cote de Stockeu and that's much earlier
(still 80km to go) than the last years where they kept waiting until
the Saint Nicolas. I think the old recipe Stockeu-Haute Levée-Rosier
    did pay off.

Yeah right, you can sea how much the true stars where watching each
other: Di Luca, Rebellin, Valverde, Freire where nowhere. Rabo got
three men + Sinkewitz chasing and they couldn't even come back. The
strongest men where in front. Only Boogerd was missing but he made
clear he was the strongest of the chasing group. Come on, it was the
best LBL since VDB, with a gap always fluctuating between 30" and
1'20"; a peloton that broke apart in different pieces (you could see
that on the Rosier i believe); hardly any team tactics that neutralized
the attacks. Great to watch this kinda "old fashion" racing again
    since P-R.

Old fashion racing? I don't think so. Of the thirty riders in the chasing
group, only one or two were riding to win, the rest was trying to let their
opponents lose. That's the typical modern way of racing.

Depending upon how you look at it, it was either a great race or a great
    disgrace.

But Mr BookMaker called it right.

No Flahute on the podium again; and no Walloon either for that matter.

By "old fashion" i meant: no teams working together to get the whole
peloton to the last 5km for the decisive climb or a bunch sprint. Most
of the top riders were isolated from their lieutenants. And apparently
it affects their way of riding, their strategy and how they "read" the
race. Indeed, sometimes it was like they didn't know how to ride for
    their own benifit.

  14. maybe rebellin didn't get busted, I must have been thinking
    about Casagrande, whatever.
it was negative racing, which benefited the breakway,
    When boogerd moved, bettini countered.
The classics this year were the same as last,
Diluca (or Rebellin) the strongest sprinter up the last drag.
Maybe one day a rider with VDB's panache will make the classics
interesting, even Jalabert, Tafi, and Bartoli had some balls, but this
    group
of clockwatchers, all watching each other until the finish,
    are boring to watch.
are you drinking a 6 pack of red bull when you watch it or

  15. Idiot, the course was much more selective. You give [censored] Pound credit
    for that?

Do you have any comment on the presence of hills in the Netherlands and
if there are any, why they might have failed to break up the AGR peloton

Learn to read douche bag. That's not what I wrote. Go back and look at the
past 5+ years of footage of the leading group climbing la Redoute. Count
the number of riders and compare that to this year. Then look at how they
went up the berg. Did they look like they were on a Sunday club run like in
prior years or were there more splits and suffering to stay in contact.
Keep telling your self that the added hills and attacking from far out made
the race exclusively. The word on Euro Street chump, is that it's a new
playing field this year. And yes, you can thank [censored] Pound for that. If you
blood dope this year, auto or homologous, you're going to be toast just like
    Tyler.

I was pretty entertained by the "will they or won't they make the catch"
dynamic. The moves from Liberty and EE weren't half bad either. But
maybe I'm just easily entertained ;-)
I would like to have seen Boogerd try something other than waving his
arms around trying to get the others to chase. Perhaps a smaller group
might have done more to bring back the break - but then, it might just
have been a smaller group staring at one another. Cadel Evans seemed
like the only one willing to take any risks at the end there. Too bad
he didn't get more for his efforts.

    Dumbass -

A race full of doped riders is not necessarily less selective than a
    race full of clean riders.

I doubt if it's even correlative. Look at the local Cat 4 race. Not
selective, but they are clean. It's the aggressiveness of the riders
that makes a race selective (or not).

Well compare notes after a few mountain stages in the Grand tours. Don't
look for large groups riding tempo over all the cols until the final climb.
The autobus will be much larger this year and will be populated by a number
    of former "climbers."
