Best MTB Stores - Nottingham/Derby Area?

They mightn't have everything you want but we like Samways in Derby -
old established shop with helpful and professional approach. Just had
my wifes bike serviced/improved and they were very sensible - only
doing whats necessary and talking us out of expensive options. There is
also the Mercian shop in Derby if you really want the bees knees.

Seconded.

Mercians is very much a "local bike shop for local people" - very cliquey.
The best way to get served is to look like the cyclist out of Belleville
Rendezvous!

Never had any problems with Samways.

Leisure Lakes has a shop in that area.
I can't vouch for them as I've never been there (Have used the Daventry
branch).

I've had nothing but bad experiences with Leisure Lakes. Last time I
went I phoned up to check they had what I wanted in stock, drove all the
way over there only to be told they didn't have what I wanted in stock.
That plus they keep spamming me following one on-line order despite
numerous e-mails asking them to stop.

A friend bought a high end mtb from the Nottingham branch and was so
displeased with the after-sales service he now goes elsewhere.
(But seeing as that statement is hearsay I didn't think it admissable :-)

I bought a high end road bike from Daventry and couldn't fault the way the
sale was handled. As for after sales service I dunno as I've not required
any.

JE James have a decent number of bikes, but staff seemed a bit clueless.

A&C Sports in Mansfield have most of the trek range in, but nowt else.

Freewheel in Nottingham have a decent number of bikes in, variety of makes
etc, but the shop's half roadie, half MTB and not huge.

It's been a while since I've lived in Derby but there are some good
shops around. They tend to be more quality than quantity though.

If you can get yourself to Belper on the A6 north of Derby there was
always a great little shop called Cyclone which I hope is still there.
They're not so big, but have great quality bikes and really know what
they're talking about. That's where I always took my bike and never had
any complaints at all.

Further up the A6 is Stanley Fearns at Matlock which IS a showroom type
bike shop but they also are partly roadie (I seem to remember), and are
purists who stock stuff that they personally like, which is (from their
website): Marin, Whyte, Gary fisher, Bianchi, Raleigh, Fuji, Saracen,
Diamondback, Haro and Mongoose. Not a bad range, though. They have a
website www.stanleyfearns.co.uk.

In the middle of Derby there's The Bike Shop on Monk St which is
definitely still there because I drove past it the other day, who are
not purists and have a big range, so I remember, but also
have top-end MTBs. They're bigger than cyclone but still not really a
showroom.

There's one called Funsport in Breaston I went to a couple of times, I
remember that was pretty good too.

yeah, you should try leisure lakes in breaston, near long eaton.

they sell all of the top of the range bikes and equipment.
