As far as I know, though, the Aliante Ti weighs roughly 180g, and the carbon-railed version, 160g. Just thought I'd toss that out there. Anyone have different info?

Excel Sports has the Ti version @ 234g and the carbon railed version @ 185g. i know some catalog companies weigh their own samples rather than listing manufacturers spec so this could account for some differences.

Hmmm... interesting. Well, let's say the Aliante (each version) weighs 200g, give or take 40g.

Ihave one of the WTB cheaper versions on my MTB. WAY COMFY. For half an hour. After that, not so much.

I bought the Fizik Aliante after reading the great reviews and impressed by the weight of the carbon rail model. It just didn't do it for me either. I went back to my Selle Italia Prolink Trans Am (which I
can't seem to find for sale any more) and appreciate its comfort more than ever. Still have the carbon railed Aliante which has maybe 200-300 miles on it and would be willing to sell it for a fair price (paid full retail of $199).

These guys actually weigh lots of different components and list the actual weights..not manufacture weights..and certainly not from catalogs..thats the worst. Gives you two columns...claimed weight..and actual weight...great resource.

Pretty happy with my brooks B-73, at 1,107grams it was the lightness compared with the B-33 at 1,539grams that made up my mind for me - lol. Seriously though being a tourer rather than a racer, comfort is a lot more important than weight for me. I just scored the B-73 (see: http://harriscyclery.net/site/itemdetails.cfm?ID=444 ) from ebay for $53 which is well under retail. Definately not one for the weight weenies.😄

interesting topic as I'm in the market for a new saddle. The problem is I dont want to spend 1000 bucks on a new saddle and i dont like it, do LBS's offer a try before you buy policy (anyone in South Africa ??)

my favorite continues to be the specialized seat with a notch cut out of the middle for my private parts. it ain't the lightest, or the sleekest, but i am willing to forgo those attributes for comfort.

i picked up all the grams of weight by buying a very light bike. a few extra grams in my saddle isn't a big deal.

I'm coming to suspect that the ergo cutouts may be my problem.

Eveyone's crotch is different, and for me, the extra edges formed by cutouts seem to be contributing to numbness -- gaps may relieve soft tissue pressure, but only exaccerbate the extent to which soft tissues are isloated and literally cut off from surrounding areas. I've started to visualize ergo cutouts like you might visualize an abdominal hernia.

I'm moving from my second ergo-designed saddle in 12 months (a Ti Flight Trans Am and a Men's Terry Firefly) to a Fizik Pave. I may try an SLR as well. Any lightweight saddle with no channel is up for consideration.

FYI -- just ordered an Arione. I'll put it on that Klein that may never arrive. Expect a report from me in, oh, a million weeks.

I love my Selle San Marco Aspide Ti. It's frim but comfortable and at 100 grams what's not to love!

I've got an SSM Aspide Ti also on my new bike. Agree it's firm, but no numbness or pressure points anywhere except the sitz bones. Did a 40-miler Saturday, and it felt fine.

But it weighs 160 gms, according to the SSM website. If yours weighs 100, you must have the hard shell Aspide Composite? That is a cool-looking saddle, but don't know if I could handle no-padding.....just don't think I'm that tough!

Your exactly right I looked up the specs and did get that number from the composite saddle. The SSM Aspide is 160 grams.

It is hard as hickory and that gives me super macho points!
It is a handmade work of art and that gives me design points!
It is the most comfortable saddle I have ever used!
It doesn't weigh THAT much!

The best saddle I have ever used. I have one on all my bikes- Road and Mountain. When I build up a bike last winter the first thing I got was a new Brooks saddle.

I've still got the leather saddle that came with my bike, no idea about make or model but it is still extremely comfortable. Unfortunately, it recently developed a crack in the shell that quickly turned into a break so now I need to replace it - it's still just about rideable but I wouldn't want to be doing any kind of distance on it.
