Bike upgrade

Do you mean a Trek 2300?

I have one of those and I built it with mostly 9 speed 105. The only departure from the 105 is that I have Tiagra Shifters which are IMO great.

I wouldn't hesitate to use SRAM components on that frame.

Another 10 speed system to consider is Microshift. You can find a lot of them on Ebay for fairly good prices. You have to order them from Asia but all of my friends that have them said the company was easy to deal with and the products work well. It just takes a little bit of time to ship them...like 10-15 days.

Now you would only save about $200 with Microshift vs. 105 or Apex. That may be worth it to you.

I'm not sure what ghetto would look like, but it's unlikely that SRAM Apex or Shimano 105 are going to look bad on anything. If you like Apex, get it. It will allow you to use a cassette with a bigger gear range than the 105. No matter the case, neither of the two groups are slouches. Why don't you post a picture of the bike?

a bike upgrade, no matter what, is an excellent way to spend your time and money, keeps the flame and motivation to ride alive and up to date with all the nice accessories available out there,

Its a new Specialized Allez. They are available in 3 versions.

The A1 Aluminium ones (like this one) are available with up to Shimano Tiagra. The E5 Aluminium ones, (just a bit lighter, not sure about its other properties) Is available with up to Shimano 105 or Apex. Then is the OSBB version made from E5 with different headtube geometry which is available either as a bare frame or complete with SRAM rival.

The reason I dont like the 2300 is that the levers feel a bit plastic-y and cheap. Since its not available with anything "better" then Tiagra from the factory makes me worry that it might be a bit "streched" to put something like APEX or 105 on it. The Allez's were available with 105 on the A1 aluminium in 2008 when the E5 material had'nt been introduced yet.

The only Campagnolo stuff available on a Specialized bike is a limited version of a carbon bike with a high end Campagnolo group. It might look good to put a Veloce group on this one or it might just look like "Don Corleone" [IMG]/img/vbsmilies/smilies/biggrin.gif[/IMG]

So what do you think? Tiagra is now available in a 10 speed version too it might be slightly racier.

OK, I see Shimano 2300...I forgot about that group since I don't really have experience with it, I should have googled that in the first place. I saw 2300 and immediately thought Trek
