  1. Okay, suggestions as to why this is happening (searched the forum and all I got was possible hypoglycemia which I have never been diagnosed with)...

I ride 2-3 hours. I eat 300cals before for breakfast. I eat 100 cals/hour and drink 1 bottle of water per hour. After, one of my eyes goes `fuzzy` like I have been swimming in chlorine. I eat a shake consisting of 1 banana, handful of strawberries, handful of blueberries and one scoop protein powder and eat it over a bowl of honey nut cheerios. I then eat a more carbs every hour for the rest of the day. I try to be careful with my diet and I am a veggetarian. I have no known health issues.

Has anyone else experienced this? I do not feel bad at all after my ride (i.e. no dizziness/fainting/vomiting) and I actually feel quite good.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

  2. Well this could be caused by far too many things to mention but a couple simple ones...

    do you wear contacts?

does this only happen in the cold weather?

    do you wear sunglasses?

i've noticed that going with out some sort of eye protection in the cold my vision goes blurry, it doesn't happen in the heat/sun, due probably to temp. and my sunglasses, i think it is just little blood vessels popping or something

    fix

  3. I like the idea of my eyes adjusting to different temp/humidity...going from freakin@ cold and dry outside to hot and humid inside I am going to give it another week and then if it keeps happening I will call a DR just in case...for now I will mess with my carb intake/timing. I dont wear glasses or contacts, but I do always wear sunglasses when I ride and so far it has only happened in the cold weather. Then again, I really only started serious training again two weeks ago. Just strange that it looks like I have been swimming in heavy chlorine...would be a nice visual effect if I could turn it on/off....hmmm... 🙄

That doesn't sound like hypoglycemia.....from what I have experienced with it, you just feel empty, start to shake, and eventualy pass out. I've never felt or experienced anything with my vision.

I'm no eye Doc, but to me that sounds like exersion from exersize is putting strain on the retina or something.

  5. I have this very same problem, but mine is due to low blood sugar.

Are you hypoglycemic? How do you know it is low blood sugar?

  7. I have that happen due to cold weather. I should wear glasses on all of my rides, but I don't.

Don't eat breakfast one morning and go get a blood sugar level test done. If it indicates normal then you have eliminated one issue and can move to the next possibility

I have type 2 diabetes, my diet doesn't allow me to eat lots of carbs or sugar. So after long rides I usually have a weird blurry haze.

  10. I can get blurred vision on a hard ride sometimes. My peripheral vision becomes fuzzy. I remember reading somewhere that it can be part of the fight/flight response. ie blood is directed to the sharper central vision to zero in on your target or escape route.
