I recently purchased a NOS set of ~2002/03 Bontrager racelite wheels.
Each rim has one hole in it on the side of the rim just below the
braking surface. The hole is ~2mm in dia and appears to have been
there before the rim was anodized. It is on the side of the rim,
immediately below the braking surface. Has anyone seen this before and
do you know why it is there? I've never seen anything like it before.

hole which is rarely if ever in the down position while the bike is
standing still. I'd vote for pressure and moisture content equalisation.Jasper

[censored]?? Do you own these wheels yourself or any like them (I have;
Campy Neutrons)? If so you would know after a ride in the wet and you
would not be guessing or voting. Pressure equalisation? That's BS
because there is no pressure build up within the rim. The rim is one
large venthole for (damp) air. The rims with no drainholes have
spokeholes who are sealed by the spokenipple.Lou

enters the rim cavity via the oversize spoke holes will sling out of
that drain hole. When parked, of course, any water that gets in will
pool unless the drain hole happens to be at the bottom, but would you
really want to park a bike in the rain if it had a set of those wheels
on it?
