McEwen has green eyesDavitamon-Lotto's Gert Steegmans will start the
2007 season with Quick Step-Innegetic after agreeing a two-year
contract with the Belgian team. Steegmans helped green jersey Robbie
McEwen to three Tour de France stage wins and will be much welcomed by
Tom Boonen, winless during this year's race.

Following the early retirement of McEwen's habitual 'pilot fish' Fred
Rodriguez in Stage 2 of the recently finished Tour, 25-year-old
Steegmans stepped into the American's shoes with aplomb, providing
McEwen with the type of lead-outs unavailable to Boonen.

The world champion had notched up seventeen wins in a superb season
before failing to register a stage victory on the Tour. Without the
lead-out skills of absent team-mate Nick Nuyens, who in turn will join
Cofidis next season, Boonen was often isolated and left to his own
devices.

Steegmans's arrival at Quick Step should put an end to Boonen's poor
Tour form and ensure that the Belgian powerhouse continues to carve out
sprint triumphs in the two years to come.
