Wow... what an impressive swim. How the hell does anyone come back in 9.48 for the SECOND LAP??? That's under 19 second pace for the 2nd lap folks.
Another great swim was Van der Kaay's 4:09 500. Too bad he thus far he can't do a similar performance at 400M, where he's needed to compete against the Ian Thorpes of the world.
One question: do the NCAA swimmers really not care as much about world swimming as swimming for their school? It seems this meet is faster than Athens already.

Yes, should be a great race. I looked up the times for the 200 in Athens - Phelps beat Hackett in both the semis and in the final. So the American seems to have a bit more speed. And also, being the world record holder in the 400 I.M., he'll be as tough as nails in the back half of the race. But of course being the world's best distance swimmer, Hackett is no stranger to pain at the end of a freestyle race, and trying to hold ones stroke together. He's also the reigning Silver Medalist from the Olympics at 400m.
The ancient Greeks banned all the utterly superior atheletes from the competition. They wanted to see a great contest. So now that Thorpe has taken himself out of the picture, it should be a tremendous race. In addition to Hackett and Phelps, others may emerge as well.
I heard Thorpe is in trouble with is federation. He choose to take a year off... This is great for him and for the futur. A new challenge after that year. This guy need changes in his life. Without any change he'll stop swimming for ever.
He started on 200-400 free. Set the WR on the 800. Won a silver medals in the 200 IM in Barcelona. Won the 200 and 400 free in Athens, and... get the Bronze on the 100 free!!!!!! He changed coach. And 18 WR in his short career. I don't know many swimmers able to da that! Phelps can make it also... I don't understand some nationals federation sometimes...
And I don't understand people who don't bother to get their facts correct. Thorpe is not in trouble with Australian Swimming.

How can you say that the meet is faster? They aren't swimming any distances that are the same, so there is no basis for comparison.

No possible comparison, but Bousquet is still the fastest man in the water ever... It was good to see his comments in a french newspaper recently. He was proud of being team captain, something we don't have here...
