Getting out of Christmas is the main reason for doing such things isn't
it? It definitely is for me - I hate Christmas. I loathe the dratted
thing. Urgle, shudder arrghh, bleeurgh. Bah, humbug.

Agreed. But my family don't see it the same way. Some of my best
Christmases have been away from home.

I'll be in New Zealand for 2 months in February and March.

Better start thinking about some plans soon but I hate the planning bit. I
just want to go and see what I find when I get there really but on the other
hand I'd hate to go all that way and find I'd missed out all the best bits.

Yes, Tuesday is a BH. I suppose another walk could be fitted in on
Tuesday given that the days are short, just so long as it isn't too
long - I hate driving long distances after a walk.

I shall be there already Phil. I always go up for a few days between
Christmas and New Year. Tends to be the day after Boxing Day for me, but
then I often stay over New Year itself, which can be great fun in Capel
Curig.

In Capel Curig I tend to camp now at Bryn Tyrch, which is further up the
road towards the shops - signposted as bunkhouse but has a lovely campsite
in it.

Last year the ground was frozen so hard I was forced to cross over the pass
to Nant Peris - often the frost in more gentle here because of the effect of
the sea. Had a very bad experience at the Vaynol Arms and have vowed never
to go back ...
