Great effort TimC. Living close to Doncaster Shppingtown, my BR rides are normally about 85 km. Where do you live anyway? Did you take the long way home (or to work?).

After Kinglake: Back through Kangaroo Ground almost to Eltham, then back to Warrandyte via Research-Warrandyte Rd, then.. arh I'll just use mspaint.exe..

My Stats: 122.14kms 4.148hrs 29.45avg 2010m climbing.. and having to chase Jaywoo who has some white hot form atm... yeeee ouch!

Went into the city to order some paint, then down to Elwood to pick up
my Amy's ride jersey from Uno, then back to Chadstone.

I usually have 95-100km on the clock if I go to work at Hawthorn, or
100-115km if I go back to Chady.

In the city, I had a minor bingle today. Going down the bike lane
near Melb Uni, and start passing a car, get collected. He was turning
left without indicators. And worse of all, he was a motorcycle rider
-- hasn't driven this in a while, and he knew all about checking
blindspots.

Back wheel is a bit out of true, didn't (yet) find anything else, but
I haven't looked too closely. If I think the wheel is ridable (the
brakes have to be released all the way, but they were still grabbing
the wheel fine), I'll fit the fixing of it in with[1] the servicing
I'll get it after I get the paint, so I can do it all at once (paint
is to apply under the handlebar tape and on a gouge under the
chainring.

[1]I commute on it. I can't afford to be bikeless for too long.

Hey lama, i'm keen to join you lot next sunday as long as you can promise me 2000 metres of climbing (and pidgeon bank rd!!). After a good ride in the nongs this morning i thnk i may have used up all my good luck for that side of town.

Noice 'paint' action! I think last week in Mildura with NO hills made me hungry. PBing Kinglake was the highlight for me. Even had a Wallaby cheering at the road side! It just sat there dumbfounded as i rode past 'busting a nut'. And we saw Lamas' on the way back too. GP liked what one of them was doing with it's tongue:eek: A real nature ride today🙂

I just had my first attempt at truing a wheel. Didn't get it very
perfect at all, but it was a first attempt, only meant to make it
ridable, and it's not rubbing up against the brake blocks at all.

So it will survive for at least another week...

I did the quick and dirty method present in the wikipedia page on
truing, given that I don't have a truing stand or tensionometer.

If you're trying to straighten a bent wheel you're unlikely to get even
tension anyway. Go for straight as possible, and bounce on the rim a bit
to unwind any spokes that you've adjusted. You should be able to get
sub 1mm deviation, which is near enough to perfect, unless your roads are
a damn sight smoother than I remember.

Without looking at wikipedia, my preferred dodgy bros truing stand is to
zip tie pegs to the chain/seat stays, then put allen keys in the pegs to
use as truing guides. Take the wheel out and put it in backwards to check
for dish (easier if you pull off the derailleur and disc brake caliper, if
you've got them).
