we had to do heaps of practice of popping out underwater, deep water
recoveries, bow rescues, etc. When we were finished, I found I had water
stuck in my ear, but couldn't get it out using aqua ear drops... and I
have a sneaking suspicion that the water actually got there through my
nose. 😉
One time, in Germany, we did some adventure training in the form of
kayaking. We were doing it in the same lake as a bunch of people who
were practicing rescue drills.
Anyway the mandatory capsize drills and even though I've done them a few
times before I have a total panic attack 'cause I can't get the skirt
off, so I'm basically doing all I can to keep my head above water while
the buoyancy of kayak is trying to keep me under.
Not once did the rescue boat come in to help me, not twice but THREE
times only to head off again. By this time the instructor had me on his
bow and was in the process of giving them a serve for being a bunch of
useless twunts while I guppy fished out of the kayak.
