  1. Well after fiddling with dodgy shifting (definetly time to pu tthat new chain on ๐Ÿ™„ ) until about 7:25 and hoping and then recieving dry skies i ventured up to Sh/town (there at 7:38). Nobody there so pushed hard hoping to catch anyone silly enough to be out.
No rain but very wet roads. feeling well shaky after recent escapades and managed a pathetic 60kph down 'the hill' riding the brakes down 90% of it.

Set a new PB tho from Warrandyte up to PideonPark hill (wot is painted on that rock people? Im usually too shagged to look...) of 14:55. I think my previous best was sitting on Gags wheel before xmas of (gags confirm?) 16:30. Unless i got my times mixed up in my head that's a big improvement even tho i currently feel lie I have gone backwards about 2 months in form!

Met up with GPlama on Kew B'vard and saw the Northern Vets running (i use that term VERY loosely! about 3 separate people rode onto the course whilst we stood there and almost caused huge dramas by following all the road signage/arrows going clockwise round the course whilst people racing were heading the other way! Geeeesh. not ONE marshall on 'the corner'. very poor)

  2. From our household the reason for going AWOL was quite simple. Wake up about 5-6am by the sound of something similiar to stones being thrown on the roof. Go back to sleep. Go for ride during the arvo.

Hey, if you guys went somewhere interesting I might stir my lethargic [censored] to come out and give it a try, if you want the numbers. But from my sketchy reading of the reports, it sounds like you just tootle round car-infested outer-suburban streets, at the opposite end of the city to me. Pardon my unintendedly disparaging tone, but what about somewhere interesting, like Kinglake, or round the back of the Dandys, or Riddells Creek/Macedon? There's some flat roads thataway, but hills if you're feeling fit. No deadhead suburban tank drivers, or not many.

Or is it a groove you've got into?

Have a look at the following map
    http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~dbuerckner/bikestuff/BRroute.gif
We effectively leave city streets when we leave Doncaster Rd and don't
really re-enter suburbia till downhill sprint 2. So about half of the
ride is definitely not suburban streets. Actually it's probably more
than that because this map is a bit out of date seeing the ride usually
goes to St ANdrews now so we do the equivalent of teh yellow section and
another 10 kms of country road on top of that. Smith's Gully (for teh
muffin break) is definitely not suburbia, come along one day and see how
not suburbia it is (or isn't??).

might be a groove but its on our doorstep. driving to a starting point seems to kill the theory for me. As daveB says, we often see about a grand total of 20 cars in the first 20-30k (unless the occasional carclub-midlife-crisis goes by ๐Ÿ˜„ ).
It came about cos we were all chattin here about how much we HATE Beach Rd. The ride is great cos its a deent(ish) distance, its close, its a great mix of all kinds of terrain, and the caf at Smiths Gully is very, very noice. Maybe in the future we can go out to Kinglake or elsewhere and I have been waiting for the Eltham-YarraGlen Rd to finish being resurfaced as the rides out that way are way cool.

Come along. you can distract us with dem big werds yuse nose just before you make a break for 'the hill' ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜„

Did you just volunteer to lead the ride? ๐Ÿ™‚
When/where does it start? How long? Difficulty level?

As soon as you said depressing race report my immediate thought was you were
probably feeling the effects of saturday. Too much time in the sun (it was
there behind the clouds) and not enough fluids.
Your race report...no food either. Too late now but you should have got
someone to grab something from the kiosk or BBQ for you. Better still got
someone else to take over the holding duties from you. You where out there
    way too long.

Satdie? I'd probably have to drive from Footiscray to get there at after a reasonable get-up time. Go to wk after.

No, I wasn't there. I was doing the triathlon handler thing for the wife.
It rained quite heavily when we were going thru Fairfield at 5:20am but had
stopped by the time we got to Sandringham just before 6:00am. Not good
weather for the swim leg of the Tri. Very choppy. There were many of the
weaker swimmers plucked from the water after getting into difficulty.

I think it's the street number for the house it's outside the driveway of.
That's if you are referring to the rock that I think you are.

Yep.. as soon as we rolled out I knew my legs were a mess
from Saturday. All through the race was a struggle to get power.
Some races I run out of breath - this one I couldn't force my
muscles any harder.. they just wouldn't work.
No sprint training this week, so if I can contain myself Sat,
    maybe I'll come good again?

What pace does the BR go at? Sat or Sun? I'd prob have to catch the train over, don't think I'd want to ride over.

  17. How come y'all hate Beach Road? What is the story? Is it full of cars? Hills? Monsters? Rough road? What gives????

Too many cars (not really an issue admittedly for most of it except for that onelane section between Black rock and Mentone...)

and too many try-hard cyclists who are just damn dangerous to ride near!

    oh, and its boringly flat!

we average 25-7kph and the starting point is one big carpark so if you got wheels that might be an option...
