Brake cable housing Donuts-Where to get?

D'oh! I found no doughnuts for cable housings as opposed
to the wire.

But Loose Screws sells plastic cable clips like these:

Found 'em at Nashbar and Alfred E. Bike. Just type
"donut" in the search utility at each site and it'll pull
'em right up.

peeked at the www.aebike.com site and those Jagwires
look more like donettes, the smaller kind for bare
cable, and are sold only in bottles of 600 for $28.99
plus shipping. (You can get 'em in smaller and cheaper
bags of 30 at www.biketoolsetc.com under repair parts,
cable & housing, O-rings.)

But maybe they can be stretched to encompass a thicker
cable housing?

The www.nashbar.com site's diacomp donut bottle of 250 is on
sale for only $4.95 plus shipping instead of $14.95 and
might have a bigger hole. I can't tell from the picture of
the bottle or the spilled doughnuts.

A belated look at Sheldon Brown's site www.harriscyclery.com
found nothing, but the google search suggested this O-ring
supplier, which would probably fit just about anything:

are correct, I failed to read the OP where the author stated
explicitly that he was NOT looking for the donuts that go on
bare wire. I've just gone back and discovered my abysmal
failure at reading comprehension. I hereby resolve to never
let it happen again.

Now I am intrigued. I can't recall ever having seen donuts,
or doughtnuts even, meant to go around housing vice bare
cable. Looking at the cable rub spots on several bikes in my
garage, I can see the utitlity. I wonder, however, if the
donut (or doughnut) will result in the same sort of rub
spots that the housing itself causes.

Don't feel bad. I stared at the ads for a while and still
can't tell whether those Diacomp doughnuts that you mention
are exactly what's wanted--they may be big enough for 4-5mm
cable housings, but they don't say.

In the end, any good hardware supply store should be able to
supply the O-rings of our dreams.

You might peek at those long-sleeve thingies from Loose
Screws. They're more like socks than doughnuts and seem to
be designed to protect your paint job where the cable
housing winds around the frame tube:

In the fastener section of my local hardware store, there
are several bins containing small o-rings that could be used
for the purpose. Perhaps you've a hardware store nearby
similarly supplied?

Hi Folks, Thanks for the replies, and sorry for my quick,
incorrect spelling of "doughnuts".

As one poster has mentioned, perhaps a rubber O-ring may
cause its own form of damage over time, and I like the
little socks at bike tools. These might be the very best way
to go? I think they'll even look better too, versus rubber
O-rings. With a Bag of 10, this should just about be enough
to do the 2 frames/Bikes I have.

Thanks also for the other idea of scouring the hardware
stores for the O-rings also. I should've thought of that.

I wished for this info, as a friend had a request for
these, but I can also see a need for them, and perhaps
others can too.

the frame, I use a simple plastic clamp that I found on one
of my "department store" bikes. Basically, it's like a zip
tie with a hump in it for the housing to pass through. I
don't know where to get them nor if this is the problem

ANY bike shop?

You will probably have to ask for them. The LBS I work in
keeps them in the service dept. with the ferrules, cables,
and the like. I think they're 3 for a dime.
