Brake recommendations please

The Deore ones have no parallel push gubbins and are fine. £35 a set
including levers and cables.

Having just changed the Vs on the 'bent for Magura HS-33s I've been=20
/most/ impressed with the Mags. They're more powerful, easier to=20
control and the only adjustment you need is wind a wee wheel on the=20
lever mount to set the rest position in as the blocks wear. When that=20
runs out of adjustment you change the blocks, and the angles etc. are=20
already taken care of (the blocks move in and out rather than rotating=20
on an arm so after the initial setup everything's taken care of).

I just wish I'd bought them in the first place, though I'd never been=20
seriously dissatisfied with the Vs. Mainly bought them 'cause Roos was=20
spending a bundle on a new bike and I felt the Streetmachine would like=20
some shiny new bits to be proud of since it would be sharing the same=20
garage. Preposterous reason, but it's paid off!

Obvious gotcha is the price: I paid =A3132 the pair including fitting, yo=
u=20
can buy them for less but fitting is said to be a bit fiddly and for=20
that sort of thing I'm prepared to throw money at someone who really=20
knows what they're doing. So you'll need to be willing to spend some=20
cash, but if you do they're as good a rim brake as you'll find AFAICT,=20
and they fit onto your existing mounting bosses.

For V-brake-stylee items, I like the Avid ones, which accomplish the
parallel push business using about 95% fewer moving parts than Mr. Shimano.

Thanks for the replies. I think it's going to be Deores. The LBS has them,
or can get them at least. Unfortunately my wife hasn't just bought some
exotic means of transport that I can compete with to justify the expense of
the Maguras. A Dublin Bus monthly pass is only about 60 euro.
