BTW its not the STOVE that's dangerous, its the practice... I claim my

(Jim, you do say /tent/ but I presume you mean [laerslite] vestibule
[awning], if you really mean inside the /tent/ you sure are in a hurry
to get yourself on the Darwin Awards list ;-)

All flames in tents are IME very dangerous. When tenting we had the
kitchen on top of the trailer, covered with a homemade tent about the size
of a one man tent. We burned it out twice, both times it was gone in
*seconds*. Once I had time to pull out one peg and guy to save the main
tent, and by the time the people in the next tent arrived to help it was
all over.

Take steps *large ones* is a good adage.

This applies to other alcohol stoves too. I've seen a gust of wind send
Trangia flames quite high, though they are to some extent shielded by
the windscreen.

Of course using any stove in a tent vestibule (I presume you meant the
vestibule and not actually inside the tent itself) needs great care.
Some vestibules are too small for safe stove use.

I know you were pulling Jim's leg a bit here, but even so... I think
part of the main point is that it's possible to turn other stoves off,
whereas one apparently has to wait for the Brasslite to burn itself
out.

Naturally it's important to be careful even in a porch. With my Primus
Micron in the Akto porch I have to take care about how high the flame
is rising, if I take the pot off the flame w/o turning off the stove.
Part of this depends on the lie of the land, I've noticed: in bumpy
conditions I may not have much choice about where I situate the stove,
relative to the wall 🙂

I meant cooking in the tent porch/vestibule - a practice often necessary on
expeditions in our dodgy climate (especially Scotland!). I've been doing it
for years with my Epigas(Coleman) Alpine gas stove. IIRC cooking in the tent
vestibule has been discussed before on this forum and many agree that it's
often necessary!

Agreed. Thinking about the brasslite, am I right in thinking it has a
simmering ring, shirely you could aply that and reduce the risk....
but a Mr T has said the "flare" risk is inherent in all alcohol
(sic.)-based stoves.

Have you found that the wurms try and carry the stove in any
particular direction? ...I presume that, when they were squiggly like
squiggly things around your gas canister that they were trying to make
off with it... kinda like ants do when they find "treasure"??

Agreedomundo. The vestibule size, or lack thereof, is a primary
concern for me when looking at tents.

I think they were in league with the monsters on the other side of the
