I purchased my wife a Brommy L6 back in August.There is one thing I am disappointed with and that is the quality of the paintwork.It seems to scratch and chip simply by looking at it,especially where the folded pedal catches the frame.Anyway I returned it to the LBS today to send it back to Brompton for them to have a look at it.For a £600 or so bike I would expect better.I don't know what Brompton are like with these things.I suppose they will say she isn't folding the pedal correctly,but that doesn't excuse the other scratches.

Or clear self-adhesive plastic. Visit a motorcycle accessory shop and look for "clear tank protector" which I've bought before. Comes on a sheet around 15in by 9in. Cut to size, peel off backing and stick down. Its good to stop minor knocks (also useful to put over the vulnerable low-mounted fog lights on cars to protect against stone damage).

I use a small pipe clip round the crank with the screw mechanism on the inside. When you fold the pedal the screw mechanism acts as a stop for the pedal so it can never get to the frame.

I think the paint comes off a bit easily too. As for the pedal, someone on the Bromtpon FAQ had the genius idea of putting a small jubillee clip (hose clamp) on the left crank. If you put it in just the right place, the black piece of plastic will slide up against it and no further, thereby keeping it away from your paintwork.
