I'd like to build a fixed gear bike for occasional use in training, but since I've never ridden one and am not sure how much I'll use it, I don't want to pour a whole lot of money into it. I'm starting with my old road bike, a Specialized Allez (steel), which has vertical dropouts. It seems as though my cheapeast way into a fixed gear is to get the ENO eccentric fixed hub and build it onto one or my current rims (I have several extra cheapy rims), but that still will run about $200, including spokes, cogs, lock rings and miscellaneous. Can anyone point me to websites (I've seen sheldon Brown's site and the links from his page) with more info? Any good sources for cheap fixed gear parts? No one in my area (central NH) seems to have fixed gear equipment. Any pointers, hints, or suggestions are appreciated.
