  1. Since I've started riding regularly I've noticed somrthing rather
curious. When I sit on a hard surface I feel a hard knot under
my tailbone (approximately where my crack begins.) this area
aches as I'm sitting. I'm not sure if this is a soft tissue or
bone issue. When I sit on the bike the saddle feels fine I only
feel pressure on my Ischal Tubercites (sit bones), but if I scoot
back on the saddle I can feel that "aching knot".

Anyone have a similar experience? What did you do do to solve
    the problem?

I'm currently riding on a Brooks Conquest saddle and I find it
pretty comfy once I settle in for the ride.

Piloteers do it on the road

Sounds kind of like a pilonidal cyst, not related to the bike, but who
knows. Can you see anything there?

  3. Hey Jim!

Nope skin looks normal and healthy there. Plus this knot feels below the
    skin and hard like bone.

I had a similar nodule. It didn't affect my riding, and I only felt it
when I consciously moved it under my ischial tuberosity. It doesn't
    sound like any of this:

Mine went away after many months (15+). I didn't do anything special
    to treat it. I dunno- I ain't a doctor (or a grammarian).

That's right. It should read: "Nor a grammarian."

Hmm, to me it sounds like John is describing something differant, not
down under where he sits, near an ischial tuberosity, but on the midline
at the top of his natal cleft (butt crack). It didn't sound like he
actually sits on the lump, but that it is a bit higher than that.

imo this newsgroup won't help you, no other way for you but to have
    someone (a doctor?) check it.

Unfortunately this sounds to me, (not a doctor) like a pilonidal cyst.
Had one many years ago, needed to see a doctor to have it treated. It
got quite infected, and I recall being uncomfortably ill. Google on
    'pilonidal cyst'.

    http://www.emedicinehealth.com/articles/20243-1.asp

A pilonidal cyst is a cyst at the bottom of the tailbone (coccyx) that
can become infected and filled with pus. Once infected, the technical
term is pilonidal abscess. Pilonidal abscesses look like a large
pimple at the bottom of the tailbone, just above the crack of the
buttocks. It is more common in men than in women. It usually happens
in young people up into the fourth decade of life.
