Good for you🙂 Nothing worse than a lazy kid. As I said in my other post, my
18yr old is going to have a rude awakening with the amt of math she chose to
learn. The thing is, kids shouldn't be able to choose how much they want to

Yep. My kids had calculus and Trig. I have no idea how my 18yr old
graduated. She was awful at math---and didn't give a damn about it.

She might grow out of it...... :-)

Lol. Well, not that this bad, it's an honost living, but she wants to be a
cosmotologist. I *guess* if she were to move to a bigger city,and focus, she
could make some good money. My sister pays 68 for a fricken haircut. Dumb.

Right nows she is working 2 jobs, living on her own( finding out rather
quickly how hard it is), and had bought her own car🙂 She is a good kid,but
education is a big thing in our family, and when I see how she thinks it's
funny to know no more than elementary math, it pisses me off.. YKWIM?

Teaching doesn't pay too badly for the amount a person has to work.

I get 40K for 190 days. In El Paso, that's not too shabby. The
starting
pay is not too much lower.

That's the advantage to living in Texas... ;-)

El Paso? You have my condolences! Last time I drove thru there, the air
was horrible with all the new factories going in over the Rio Grande
where the pollution is not regulated. :-( Thanks to NAFTA!

I work down in the valley where all the smog is, but I live higher up in the
desert closer to New Mexico on the east side, out by the Bowden ranch.
There's a huge difference in air quality. El Paso doesn't look like much
from I10, but it really has many redeeming qualities. Like super cheap
labor. ;-)

right. The pollution hovers over the city only due to altitude and

LOT's of people would love to teach Junior High. All
by itself that explains why teachers aren't highly paid.
Supply and demand. There are plenty of people who will
do it for less money, therefore schools get away with

Schools also churn out far more of them than their are
jobs. That drives the price down. My younger daughter
went through that program after high school. What a
difference if she'd started towards LVN instead.

LVN's get paid even worse than I do. ;-) RN is where the money is...

You are mistaken. The reason that MT pay is low is due to ASCP. Lab
people are treated like a "necessary evil" which sucks and get no
respect.

Tell me where doctors would be without their damned lab results?

Fortunately for us, the majority of BS-MT's like me realize it early on
and leave the labs for more lucrative employment since our degrees
qualify us for such.

Research,
Sales,
R&D,
Field service,

etc.

Over 75% of the MT programs WORLD WIDE have closed down due to lack of
students! The long predicted shortage of MT's is finally happening. ;-)

Due to a new lab director that was a total ass hole, we lost 30% of our
people. Now that the guy got canned, we are finally able to re-fill
those lost positions and are having a hell of a time doing it.

With any luck, the shortage will continue so the pay will go up.

Finally. ;-)

It's a freaking 4 year BS degree! We should be making more than we are
already! They problem was lack of appreciation and prestige.

Kids have always been able to choose how much they want to learn. All
parents and teachers can do is try to convince them to do the right thing.
Maybe the parents and teachers are not as assertive in this day and age.

The qualifications for being in a class are more the problem than the
curriculum, but the root problem is a people problem. The problem goes much
deeper than the design of a curriculum.

quit his high paying job to move to florida to be with some girl that he

awful. They start out at 23 here, and I think that is low. I was making 17
an hr in the dental field, 4yrs ago. Good grief--all that schooling for only
15an hr to start?

I have been very involved in my kids education. I am very strict about
grades. If a child has a disability, it's one thing, but for a kid to be
lazy out of convienence, that is another story. Wow, that was an awkward
sentence. Lol
