    A Calorie (capital C) is 1000 calories (lowercase c--yes, I am a chemist)*.
This is a unit of heat (or energy if you prefer--heat being the energy which
flows). There are 4.184 joules in a calorie (or 4.184 Kilojoules in a
Calorie). Specifically, a calorie is the amount of heat needed to raise the
temperature of one gram of water from 14.5 oC to 15.5 oC.

*Note that food uses calorie (lowercase) to indicate kilocalories.

So, approximately every gram of sugar has 4 kilocalories of energy (or food
calories, which would be 16.74 kilojoules)--sugar is simply a carbohydrate
(a simple carbohydrate in fact and every carbohydrate has approximately 4
calories per gram--that is food calories).
Every gram of fat has approximately 9 kilocalories (or food calories, which
    would be 37.66 kilojoules).
    Ain't learning fun!

  3. could you roughly rephrase that into a table. per every 1 unit?

  4. could you roughly rephrase that into a table. per every 1 unit of fat
and sugar into kiljules and food calories .e.t.c.

  5. So if i at 2 grams of sugar it would equal to 8 calories (same on a
    pdeometer) / 32.94 kilojoules.

  6. So if i at 2 grams of sugar it would equal to 8 calories (same on a
    pdeometer?) / 32.94 kilojoules.

  7. in other words. is teher a way i can wort out how much sugar or fat
i've burnt off trhough my pdeometer (through calories)

  8. Yes. Each pound of lost body weight (after the first 5 lbs which is
mostly starch and water) turns out to be about 2000 Calories.

  9. Alas, though, a pound of lost body weight in a dieter is NOT a pound of
chemically pure fat. Read what I wrote.
