  1. Hi,

I'm thinking of changing pedal systems because squeaky Look
cleats are driving me mad. I never had this problem before I
had Sidi Genius 4's so I'm not sure if it is due to more
curve in the sole or the adapter plate.

Does anyone experience squeaky cleats with the new
    Campy pedals??

What do I need to change, will the Campy cleats just replace
    my Look cleats??

I've also considered Speedplay, any issues there??

I will be very annoyed to swap systems just to find the
squeak reamins. Maybe the shoes are at fault...

    Thanks for any comments

    Pete

Yes, but they had to get a little "old" first.

Yes, Campy cleats fit like Look. --TP

Have ya tried a small amount of lubrication on the
    contact points?

I use Campy pedals and like them, but I doubt changing
pedals will solve your problem. There have been a number of
suggestions posted here for sussing out squeaky pedal-shoe-
cleat problems. Start by isolating the squeak. Can you make
the squeak with just the shoes on the floor?

I had Campagnolo LOOK pedals for years, switched to
Campagnolo profit, felt no difference. Put the cleats in the
same place. Went to Speedplay Zeros, first on my fixed gear
for the double sided of them, then to my Merckx. Cleats in
the same relative place and again, they were pedals. No
real, difference. I like the adjustability of the float. I
use just a wee bit heel out, almost no heel in float. Kinda
like my first pair of shoes, the Dettos.

No noise BTW, had sqeak all the time with the LOOK ones.

Furniture wax. My friend Greg has a Dremel tool he uses to
polish the (blackened) contact points on the cleat. Works
great, his Looks are quiet, my Campys (on one set of pedals)
    are noisy.

FWIW, I like the Campy pedal/cleat system better than Look
but "perfection" lies elsewhere (opinion). --TP

I've got Record pedals and Genius 4s also, and had annoying
squeaks. I just lube the cleat-pedal contact points,
including the square black rubber pad, with a little dish
soap. Works great, and when I need to clean things up, the
soap is already there, and an old toothbrush and water does
    a quick job.

  8. I am using those Sidi's with two different Look pedal
    systems with no squeaking.

    Thanks all,

Glad to hear that you're using my model of shoes without
problems, I never had problems with an older pair of Sidi
Genius but they didn't have that separate adapter plate.

As advised I must try and isolate the squeaking interface.

The wax and soap ideas sound useful.

  10. When my Look cleats start to squeak, I dribble a little bit
of very thin parafin (Krytech) or teflon (Tri Flow) based
lube around the edge of the cleat (where it meets the shoe).
It's drawn into the gap between the cleat and the shoe, and
that silences it for at least a few weeks.

    Good luck with it. Tom
