  1. I wanted to find out the carb count of 250 grams of carrots

The table below is part of the data from the USDA site.

Which of the readings must I take for the carb count for my diet? I am
trying to find out the carb count of a mug of homemade soup.

    Thanks

    Water g 220.73 33
    Energy kcal 102 0
    Energy kj 432 0
    Protein g 2.33 19
    Total lipid (fat) g 0.60 26
    Ash g 2.42 19
    Carbohydrate, by difference g 23.95 0
    Fiber, total dietary g 7.0 4
    Sugars, total g 11.35 4
    Sucrose g 8.97 11
    Glucose (dextrose) g 1.47 11
    Fructose g 1.38 11
    Lactose g 0.00 5

    Carbohydrate, by difference g 23.95

Use the above number as the carb count. If you count net carbs you can
subtract the fiber since the USDA includes the fiber in the total carb
    count..

  3. The carb count of interest for LC diets is the net carb count. In this
case, it's the total (23.95) minus the fiber (7.04)

Next time, use my site... I use the USDA database, but I do all the
    LC-centric math for you.

  7. Liz,

Carrots are very high in carb.
Carrots have the double decker: Starch + sugar.

Carrot juice is very sweet. That proves high glucose content.

In on of Dr Atkin's vegetables tables, carrots had the highest content
of carbohydrate. He recommended staying away from carrots.
I recall it had more carbs than potatoes.

I view a carrot as a potato with sugar. I'd avoid in induction and OWL
    levels.
After you reach your weight goal, you can eat it with moderation.

Thanks for your concern but I was aware of this. My reason for asking was
particularly because I knew they were high in carbs.

I make a home made mixed vegetable soup that the family really likes and it
uses 8 oz carrots as part of its ingredients (for more than 10 servings).
As it is from the carrots that the soup gets its colour, I don't really want
to leave them out. So I wanted to be absolutely sure how many of my
precious daily carbs I was spending if I drank a mug of the soup.

My calculations show that the 10+ servings of soup have a total carb
(counting all the veggies) of just under 67 carbs and a net carb of just
over 48 so I can now drink away but count the carbs!

    Liz

  9. Some people are way too paranoid about carrots. I have several soups I use
them in and when you eat them in moderation they are fine. I also cook them
with my pot roast and eat one with a meal.

  10. You eat carrots and you're still way too fat.

Is this merely correlation, or could it be causation?
