Good rims, but not enough spokes, and seems the quality of the rear hub and build is questionable.

For the same money you can get very high quality hand built wheels using Velocity Aerohead rims with OC rear, standard 14/15 DB DT or Sapim spokes, standard DT or Sapim nipples and enough spokes (28 or 32 front & 32 or 36 rear depending on your weight) so that if/when you break one you won't be stranded. Shimano Uletgra hubs are very hard to beat for value and durability. You can get that package for under $250 and have very durable and serviceable wheelset.
However, it won't have the "BLING"!

Different companies. Velomax is now owned by Easton.

I have had a pair of aerohead wheels for 3 yrs now. They haven,t given me any problems and have remained true. Approx. 1000miles on them and I weigh 195lbs. Hope this helps thats a good deal as well as mine were $400. If you don,t mind telling me are they available on line for that price. thx Dave

they have the wheels for 230. I own a pair and they are pretty good after 2500 miles, no truing or anything. I would look at the Excel Sports or Colorado Cyclist Ultegra/Open Pros for about 200 or so first though, heard nothing but good things about those wheels. Good luck. 200 was a bad quote CC has them for 212 and Excel for 279.

I have a set of Creek's and I like them alot. I weigh 190 and do alot of climbing here in Colorado. I do notice a difference between them and my open pro's while climbing, for the better. However if you do alot of flat riding you won't notice alot of difference. I have had to true and retension them after a couple of years but they have been great wheels. No probs with the hubs. Good points up above about serviceability as other, more conventional wheels allow easier spoke replacement and parts availability if something goes wrong on a tour or something. Cane Creeks use a special spoke tool, you will have to have it with you if you need to tweak spokes. All in all they are great wheels and for that price well worth the money. That said, I will probably build up a set of custom wheels from Velocity, Shimano etc, etc for my next wheels. Hope this helps
