Its not the forks but the whole bike.I'm thinking of carbon for my next bike, something like the 5200 but i dont want to limit myself to that one,but i would like to keep it under 3000.Right now i really like my steel frame fuji.
Giant is a phenominal deal, I find it much more affordable then the Treks and technologically just as advanced. Trek's 5900 is a phenominal bike too, just got word from a friend who manages a shop and is as critical as i but the price is too high.
Determine what kind of riding you want to do - pleasure, fast crits, road racing, weekend warrior, and then go from there. remember, along with a frame you need a quality set of wheels so look at the cost of the whole pacakge.
personally, i ride a C40 this year and have been riding C40s from Colnago for 2.5 yrs now, best frame i've ever owned.
