  1. Anyone used a product by a company called Bodyglide?

I (hesitantly admit) I got my first case of runners nipple on the weekend, in prep for my first
marathon, and after running 22kms I had bleeding. I am thinking about getting some of this product
(bodyglide.combodyglide.html ) and just asking what peoples opinions are, or whether you
have other solutions for chaffing between the legs, or armpits, or even runners nipple.

    Thanks, Brendon

PS. Vaseline is out of the question for a variety of reasons.

Sure, I used to use it all the time for longer runs. It works very well, unless you have severe
    problems. Downfalls are:

    1. It takes a couple showers to completely soap off the greasy feeling from wherever you applied it.

    2. It tends to smell bad, particularly when it gets old. Something in it goes rancid, I imagine.

    cheers,

I don't think bodyglide will help. It's only a little better than vaseline for this area. As Donovan
asked what kind of shirt were you wearing? Many shirt material such as cotton behave like sandpaper.
Many resort to an old fashioned Band-Aid which may or may not come off without some hair. BG great
    for thighs and armpits though.

For the nipples - 3M Transpore Surgical Tape tinyurl.com2jp5h It's strong enough to stay on
for your longest runs, yet not so strong that you can't get it off without screaming.

Between the legs, arm pits - olive oil.

For nipples I always use 1" micropore tape (or cheap generic equivalent). It adheres well (I've used
it for 3 marathons now and it's never come off), it's cheap and non-messy.

To prevent chaffing between my legs I wear lycra shorts for longer runs.

  8. For nipples, I use New Skin (liquid bandage). I re-apply before each run. Eventually, after numerous
layers build up, it peels off easily. Then I start over again.

I have used vaseline for decades to keep from happening what you are trying to keep from happening
and find that it works very well for that task, is cheap and with a little soap for me and detergent
for my clothes washs out easily. In addition I can't recall a marathon where they were handing out
anything but vaseline during the race, thus there was a ready supply when I really needed it.

Shave your nipples, and use bandaids.

I use it but it's only marginally effective; for me it seems to stop chafing between five and
ten miles but beyond that I guess it gets worn away. I tend to wear microfiber shirts; the most
effective is probably Body Armour but I've bled in all of them.

  12. Thanks Doug,

I think it will be particularly usefull between the thighs, which is primarily what I bought it for,
though I may not have made this obvious in the first post. The armpits have just started to 'hint'
    at becoming an issue also.

In regards to the top I was wearing, it was an Adidas singlet, Climalite material, and due to the
weather was extremely wet and hot here so may have been the only reason. I have not had it happen
before wearing shirts at all, cotton or otherwise, based on same conditions etc.

I have the product now, and will be trying it out this weekend, as Fri here is rest day, and I have
done my run for today. I will report back after my 2 long runs this weekend.

    Thanks, Brendon
ps. I am just loving all the km's I am doing at the moment, and neat to see my graph increase as the
weeks pass in build up for my 1st 'thon'. :-)

  13. Thanks David, I will have to shower longer then I guess? lol.

I read it is supposed to have a nuetral smell, i.e. none at all, but as you say, this is after a
period of time. I wonder, did you keep it air tight during the time frame of it getting old?
    Thanks, Brendon

have recovered enough from my1st marathon by that stage.. :-)

Hmm, I've been using Bodyglide for years and haven't had either of those problems. I still have the
    stick I bought 3 years ago, and I haven't noticed a smell.

Maybe you're using it in places I'm not.

I think you mean "Under Armour", right ? Their heat gear shirts are very smooth material and because
it's body-hugging, it doesn't seem to "rub" as much as other stuff.

Yeah, it has a neutral smell at first, and over time it goes bad. It's happened with several
applicators I've had. It takes a few months - nothing to be alarmed about, I just thought I'd throw
    my observations in there.

It's much worse when it's wet. I once got back from a 10-mile run in steady drizzle and found myself
mildly chafed everywhere my shorts and shirt touched my skin.

Bodyglide will work fine for those two areas, but like Doug said, it's not optimum for the nipples.

The other two tapes mentioned are good, but if you can't find them, BandAid Blisterblock works, too.

Nipples and occasionally back edges of armpits (not the pit itself, obviously).

I thought that I might be transferring something too, so I went through an entire applicator
applying by hand every time, but got the same results.

    regards.
