I have one. Its easier than taking the chain off, and flexes the links
while brushing in the solvent. Works well.

That happens to me when the chain is very dirty. You need to hold the
contraption with one hand, while turning the crank with the other.
After a while, the chain should loosen so you don't need to hold
the gadget.
