Changing Suspension

If the other used one is of the same dimensions it should be fairly easy. Unhook brake wires etc, remove the stem + spacers and top half of headset and the old fork should come out easily. A light tap might be needed. Keep track of the headset parts. Remove the part of the headset that sits down by the crown of the old fork and move it over to the "new" fork. Reassemble and reattach brakes etc. If the new fork is longer than the old you'll need to add more spacers or cut it down a bit, which is a little more tricky.

It can be done by you if you are mechanically proficient but if you want it done really well you will need some specialized tools. Also make sure the steerer on the other fork is cut long enough to fit your frame.

Its not that hard if you are ok with tools and stuff

check out the park tools website, they have guides for doing all that sort of stuff

if you do it your self then be VERY carefull cutting the steerer, you want to make sure its long enough cause they are expensive to replace

I replaced the Judy Race on my Schwinn with a Mars, and it was not all that hard. The only think that I had to go to the LBS for was to have them cut the steering tube.

Thats odd, cutting the steerer is the easiest part. All you need is a hacksay and a cut in a relatively straight line! Installing the starnut and crown race should be the more difficult aspect of it.

When I put on the Mars I put the nut and on myself (with no tools other then a couple household ones) and it wasn't that hard, but I guess I was just a little scared to cut the sterrer myself (in the end I had the shop do it) because I was afraid of making a mistake. That was the one part I really didin't want to screw up.
