power tower type things on the market, that enable you to do chins
and
dips if you don't already have the facility. A lot of them boast
things like ergonomically designed handles' and multi adjustable
this
that and the other for most effective muscle interaction'.
Perhaps you could post a link so we know exactly what you're talking
about?

frame in my back garden, with a bar simply slung between two
uprights
sunk in concrete, will this give me what I need for a full pull up
workout?
Yes.

you need something more sophisticated than a simple straight bar,
such
as all this adjustable multi angled stuff I've seen advertised?
Those are nice. I use them when I have access to them, but that's
very
very rarely.
Someone gave me a set of gymnast's rings a while back and I use those
for
chinups. It's sort of nice to have the amount of twist in the forearm
set by
you rather than by the bar.
Rings are great, and they're fun. I put up some in the backyard and the
kids play on them, too. Pullups, muscle-ups, L-sits - all sorts of fun
stuff to do on them. These:

have had a lot of nice things said about them - portable, strong. I
don't own them but I've used them and they seem to get the job done
while being adjustable, and they're what I'd get if I didn't have mine
already.

the
rings than look for some fancy angled bar.
