  1. I don't know what I'll eat tonight. Had really good fried tilapia last
night. I'm thinking Mexican at my fave joint. Whatcha' all doin or fixin'?
I might call some friends but I'm not in the mood for a marguerita call.
Steven is working, as usual. I might run by the butchers and get Shelly
some of his favorite liver before I go out. Gawd... I'm babbling. Sorry.

We just put a turkey on the WSM that we brined for three days. Just prior
to going on the coals, TFM injected the bird with melted butter, honey and
garlic. It's an experiement, but turkey is so cheap right now, we're going
to buy the h*ll out of it until it's no longer on sale.

Oh, steamed asparagus and a mixed green salad will be the sides.

Dunno. Cleaning house and feeling a bit aimless. Might just fix spaghetti.

I'm making a batch of Jill's squash soup. I'll probably start eating
that tomorrow, and will likely just toss a frozen pizza in the oven
    for tonight's dinner.

    Chow tonight:
    3 pizza margheritas
    Bottle of wine
(And heated canned red kidney beans, starting off my 3 months' diet of beans
    & oatmeal)

I finally found some San Marzano tomatoes gathered from 3 stores, 3 states
    http://tinypic.com/fw3whc.jpg
    http://tinypic.com/fw3uis.jpg
All of the tomatoes were grown in Italy.

Finally found some Ortiz Bonita del Norte - for those interested in price
    $9.99 at Whole Foods, Baltimore
    http://tinypic.com/fw3w43.jpg
The other jar is from an Italian Grocery in Baltimore $5.99
All fish is from Italy (or packed in Italy?)

The box on the right is tuna eggs (I think the price was too dear - I don't
    want to know).
Any comments welcome - all products here are made/produced in Italy. But I
see on the box, it is DRIED GRATED TUNA EGGS. Ingredients: Tuna eggs, salt.

    http://tinypic.com/fw4lxy.jpg

And to finish off -- here is an answer to those who like nutella, but none
of the hydrogenated fats. This is my 4th jar, I'm a regular customer. I
hadn't eaten Nutella since 1976. I even spread a little over some fried
    plantains this morning.

Lightly pan fried a boneless skinless chicken breast, sprinkled with
lemon-pepper, italian seasoning, garlic powder, cayenne pepper and
paprika in a little EVOO. Set aside to cool. Toasted the insides of two
english muffins under the broiler. Assembly: bottom muffins, light coat
of mayo, tomato slice, chicken slices to fit, iceberg lettuce to fit,
slice of cheese, top muffins. Simple and delicious, imho.

Ended up putting some black beans in the pressure-cooker. May make
black bean soup, may just throw together chili. And there's brown rice

Remembered I had green peppers in the fridge, so I stuffed them with
rice, black beans, stewed tomatoes, onions, garlic, and chili powder.
The place sure smells good. (Sauteed the onions in oil before adding
them to the rest -- baking at 350 for an hour in a covered dish; will
serve with corn on the side.)

    Sorry.

This past week finally brought fall to us, so we've been enjoying this
great cool weather (highs of ~60 and lows of low-40's). Thursday I
simmered a pot of yummy Guinness stew and served it in bread bowls for
dinner. Last night was grilled pork tenderloin marinated in pureed
chipotles, onions, garlic, and adobo sauce and served with oven-roasted
    potatoes and corn-black bean salad.

For dinner tonight, I picked up some filet mignons wrapped in bacon at
H-E-B (four good-sized ones for less than $10--had a wonderful smoky
flavor from the bacon). Grilled those with some portabellos stuffed with
a mixture of bacon, diced onions, diced mushroom stems, spinach,
parmesan, and a bit of cream and topped with a slice of provolone.
Served with a salad and some baked (then mashed with butter, milk, and
seasonings) sweet potatoes. Have enough for leftovers tomorrow night.
We'll be at the TX Renaissance Festival (http://www.texrenfest.com/) all
day tomorrow and won't have much time to cook after we get home.

I thawed a couple chicken legs last night. Before coming in to work, I
covered them with a simple dry rub of hot paprika, black pepper, and Harris
Ranch Lemon-Garlic Salt. When I get home, I'll fire up the
convection/microwave oven and cook them (on the "high-mix" mode) along with
a delicata squash that's been patiently awaiting my attention for a couple
weeks. I'll also make broccoli slaw and rice. (I'll add corn and a
quarter-can of Ro-Tel to the rice.) Maybe I'll put some barbecue sauce on
the chicken when it's done. I might also stop at the grocery store on my
way home and pick up some salad fixin's, depending on how hungry I am.

After an afternoon of very serious football watching, we celebrated
with Dungeness crab & French bread. First crab of the season - very
fresh and sweet as can be - a real treat.

You know what, Bob. There is all the difference in the world in the taste
of a plantain if you cut it lengthwise and then in half, vs. in rounds. DH
fries it in coconut oil -- that, too, makes a difference in taste. Also,
someone suggested the brand, Shady Farms maple syrup, which we just found
and used it on the plantains. That was good, too.

There are so many different ways to prepare them because you can prepare
them in a ripe, green and in-between stage.
They are firmer and usually larger (in the markets) than 'regular' bananas.
To me, they are a cross between a banana and a yam.
