Clarendon street again

Cycling home yesterday only to find myself the subject of a photograph.
Now there's something that doesn't happen every day. Guy who took the
photo of me riding in a legal and correct manner through the obstruction
gave me a nod of acknowledgment; looked like a cyclist so seems I'm not
the only one peeved.

Something else occurred to me on the way home today. These bloody
monstrosities DON'T WORK. They do absolutely nothing to prevent
motorists from turning right as from the offside lane so they're
absolutely pointless.

I'm taking my camera in tomorrow to take a few photos myself. With any
luck I'll get a few photos of motorists turning right from the offside
lane. I've a mind to send to The Age and The Herald Sun as well as BV
and VicRoads.

Is that 'turning right from the left lane' thing?

Makes sence to me though. Afterall how else are the trams suppose to navigate through heavy traffic? Hook turns are just a little example where for once, cars etc (vehicular traffic) come 2nd.
The exicution may be alittle to be desired, but seeing how it's a retro-fit, it's understandable.

when on the pushie I navigate turning off/from busy roads as a psudeo hook-turn anyway.

Hook turns work in the city because right turning cars do not impede
traffic flow, they move off to the side and wait for the straight ahead
traffic to disperse. This isn't the case in Clarendon Street, the near
side lane is completely blocked off which means that you're riding right
next to the tram lines or, in the case of junctions with trams turning
corners, riding over the tram lines at a dangerously shallow angle.

I understand what they're trying to do but the implementation leaves a
lot to be desired. Blocking off the near side lane is not forcing
motorists to turn right from the near side lane, they're still turning
right from the off side lane so what's the point?

Yeah I do to, especially Nepean to Highett Road.
