I love them, especially in sunny weather. The only problem I've ever

pedal or similar, then one is in consequence forced briefly to perform

SPDs are a good place to start. There are a lot of other systems which
you might choose to move onto. The downsides of SPDs are limited float
and a tendency to clog with mud in particularly muddy off-road
conditions.

The M520 SPDs are the replacement for the M515s and now incorporate the=20
new Mud Shedding (TM) technology from Shimano, which basically means=20
that they've got big holes through them so the mud can fall out more=20
easily. I have two pairs of these and paid =A320 / pair for them. Once at=
=20
a Cycle Promotions one day sale, and once as an introductory offer=20
through St John Street.

I would avoid FPDs (An SPD clone) since a friend bought a pair and=20
discovered that the cones where self-tightening which meant that the=20
pedals literally wound themselves to halt. Given a difference of =A30 - =A3=
5=20
for the basic SPDs they don't seem good value for money.
