  1. It was freekin' cold in Boston today. Tomorrow and Sunday are going to be the same or worse. About
    0degreesF and 10-15mph winds.

Running was painful. Frost accumulated on my shoulders and back.

Props to anyone else that's running in this.

No kidding. I ran outside all last winter, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I purchased a pass to
the U-Mich indoor track, and I've really appreciated it this week -- more to avoid the ice and
uneven footing than the bitter cold, though I don't mind avoiding that either.

I also look forward to avoiding the cold/rainy weather as well.

  3. Gee, and here I am asking about Camelbak's because it's hot in this neck of the woods, we'll get to
28deg C today (not sure in F), but yes, I've been for my run already, 6am when it was much cooler.
0deg F must be tempting to stay indoors instead of run I bet!

My winter running group will be out in full force tomorrow for 13-15 miles. It's supposed to be 0
with a little wind chill. We have run these conditions many times before. That's why the make Poly-
yada shirts, tights of various thickness', heavy hats and gloves (mittens for me) and Gortex type
jackets. A nice smear of vaseline on my nose and chin area and the day will be a delight. If the sun
stays out I'll work on my facial tan.

Yep. See my note under "road camber". I hadn't used vaseline before this year, but found that it
gave me more flexibility with my balaclavas. I could pull it down to breathe more and reduce some
heat buildup without risking frostbite on face.

No snow so I'm roller "skate skiing." The action is not as difficult as running in cold weather.
Also, a warm boot versus uninsulated sneakers.

If you had frost on your body it sounds like you're not wearing a shell? At these temps you need to
use a breathable shell and wicking thermals.

I am another 40 miles north of Boston, and I ran 4 miles at 8 am this morning. The weather
forecast for that moment was -4 F, but before I got out of the house, the thermometer outside the
window displayed -10 F (-23 C). It's probably the coldest day of my life after living in the USA
    for 11 years.

I had 2 layers on my legs, and 3 thin layers on my body with headband covering my ears, which was
ok. But the bitter lesson that I learned from running in colder weather like this was that I really
should have worn 3 layers of underwear. My goodness, it hurts, I mean that part.

I only run 3 days a week. Hopefully this coming Sunday will be better.

Here in Ottawa, it's -15 degrees F or -27 degrees C, with 15 mph northwest winds. I was running this
morning with just a jogging long sleeve for one hour. It's proved being a mistake. At least, I
should have put on a third sock.

    Ughhh.....

wool longsleve bike jersey with insulated lycra armwarmers and a fleece vest, so the shoulder and
armpit area only had one layer. On cold runs prior to yesterday, I always felt overdressed with a
wool longsleeve undershirt, wool cycling jersey and a windbreaker. So I switched thinking some
ventilation in the armpit area would help. well, by the end of the run, I swear I felt the nerves in
my arms, all the way down to my fingers, firing with every step. I almost think the nerves were
"freezing" in my relatively exposed shoulders.

It was "fun". something I'll remember, anyway. Today I'll stay inside to get warmed up for the
    football games.

  11. Six hearty souls showed for today's run. -8F, bright sun and very little wind. In a mater of minutes
we were warm as toast. 2+ hours of undulation and off to breakfast to replace some calories. We all
agreed after breakfast if it wasn't for the group most would have not run or done something much
shorter if not later in the day when a little warmer. The power of group runs.
