    2. If he feel comfortable spending that much $ on a frame, let him do it, C50 is a amazing beast .. whatever it weights.
    3. WE ALL STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO GET A PROPER FIT IN ORDER TO MAXIMIZE YOUR PLEASURE AND MAKE US FEEL THAT YOU DID NOT WASTE YOUR $.
    4. Ride it en enjoy it for many years

    Cheers

    Word.

Also, I'd like to add my .02 on this subject.

I am 5'11" with a 31.5 inseem , and I ride a Colnago 56cm(center to top) with a 54.7 top tube.... and I have a 115mm length stem..... and fits me well. I could go to a 57cm Colnago.. which has a 55.5 top tube... and go with a size 10cm stem ....... and the fit shoud be there.

Go to your local bike shop... (which ever one is best) ..... and ask them for a pro fit for yourself...... and tell them that your looking to buy a bike that is measured from center to top ..... and that should do the trick. Also, ask as many questions as possible 😉

Why did you think I included this picture, boudreaux? I knew you'd recognize that little chap. So innocent, so wide-eyed. Was the evil lurking inside him even then? Or was it his failed run for president of the local chapter of the Good Sports Club in 7th grade? That Mr. Torkle, he had it out for you and Scooter all along. All the kids knew he'd torpedo your run -- only none of them suspected he'd do it by planting that garter snake in Sally-Anne's laundry basket and paying Jimmy Sprout a nickle to say you did it.

What I've always wondered, though, is why Sally didn't marry Scooter after she became pregnant with his baby the summer after graduation.

  3. a nickle!

oh man, that was a riot!

Thankyou for being virtually the only person so far to answer my question properly, if I ever get sick of my C-50 give your address and I will post it to you...

I am ordering a C-50 and was wondering if a 54cm top tube would be too long for me.

I am 177cm tall and have a skinny build.

I know that this information is very brief although I was curious to see what you size frame you ride and your height.

    Please help

OK, actually there's nothing *wrong* with your original post. It's just *really* goofy and rings of a noob about to blow 4-large on a potentially poor fit.

Dude, you are pimping for free advice, and many here are happy to give it. But don't get [censored] when you don't like the answers you get. Boo hoo! BTW, Adam-from-SLO wasn't 'virtually the only one' to answer the way you wanted.

Here's what you were looking for then, rather than advice. I'm 5-10", 32" inseam, and ride a 56.3 cm top tube on my Colnago C40 [a 58cm ctt frame].

  6. Oh well .. I am 5' 7" with a 32.5 inseam and race a 53 cm c-c ST .. eventually Mr Andrew will figure out that there is little correlation between pure height and frame size (after plotting all the data we are providing, on a graph and establishing a best fit curve), that we were not being difficult but trying in a not very subbtle way to show him he was going in the wrong direction, that if he wants a better answer he should'nt be that lazzy, go on link, measure himself and run the prg.. case closed

well, I'm 6' with a 35.25 bike inseam, and also ride a 58 colnago with a 56.3TT. See where this is going??? Now go get a proper fit from someone who knows what they are doing: That being the best REAL advice you are gong to get.

    Your welcome🙂

I am in the business of giving accurate information at all points along the straight line....... in the quickest time possible 🙂

***Also, seems like Colnago's fit people best that have longer legs..... and shorter upper body(like a 55/45.... or a 60/40 split) ...... although I am about a 53-legs/47-upper body person..... and Colnago fits me well. This is mainly due to Colnago's shorter Top Tube...... in comparison to other Frame builders(LOOK, Lightspeed, etc........ tend to measure the frame , ex. 56cm will have a 56cm top tube + seat tube) .

I dig Colnago's geometry/ degree angle tubs + craftsmanship + all around great pedigree

Even an expert bike fitter couldn't answer this question based on your height. The lengths of your torso and arms would play an important role in determining top tube length, and your overall height by no means indicates what those other measurements might be.

Ditto on getting a thorough proffessional fit - the guys selling you the bike should be insisting on this. And congrats on the new bike; never mind other folks sour grapes.

Yo, check it. Colnago TTs are NOT short. My '58cm' C40's top tube is 56.3 cm, while the ST is 56 ctc. For a true 58cm frame, conventionally measured, a 56.3cm TT would indeed be short. But it's not a 58... it's a 56 by the measurement that counts. Compare 56ctc ST frames, and you'll see it's right about the same as others. Take, for example, my Cervelo. It's a 56cm ctc ST, and has a 56.5cm top tube. Only 2mm longer.

Colnago's choice for quoting sizes has screwed up countless people and created this bogus myth that their TTs are short (and created who knows how many bad orders... I see it on eBay all the time).

  13. Wow ! It is getting rough.

    Please do not kill anybody.

I would say, that if you pay such a lot of money for your dream bike, then I would go to the Colnago salesman or representative himself, who is selling me the bike and he should do all the sizing on his responsibility.

I am myself 1.78 and use a 57 cm frame with a 56 cm top tube.
So, what was shortly mentioned about a 57 cm frame could be right, but check it!.

I hope, everything works out right and wish you happy biking.

There is no such thing as a 'conventional' measurement. Frames are measured 3 different way,so get over that one. My 58 colnago has a 56.3TT, a 58 cdale(C-T) has a has a 57.5, and a 58 Trek 5200 is 57 tt,so compared to frames measured similarly, it is short. And FWIW, a 55 lemond c-c has a 56.5TT.

  15. Colnagos are lugged and bonded carbon frames. OCLVs and Looks are the same. This process enables more sizes to be made as you can retain the same lugs for most frames.

Scotts and Giants are monocoque construction. They are laid and produced in a mold. The mold itself is the expensive part of the process which is why there are limited sizes for monocoque frames.

Both types of carbon fibre construction are made of carbon weaved sheets. The first have the lugs made by laying sheets in a mold with resin and weaving tubes and ultimately joining them. The second is made with sheets laid in the mold with a bladder.

Anyways, you can check www.competitivecyclist.com and www.wrenchscience.com for sizing information. Guestimating frame size from height is difficult... if not impossible. People with the same height can have very different upper arm/ full arm/ inseam/ upper leg/ lower leg/ sternum heigh ratios. For example, my mate is shorter than me but has the same inseam as me, however needless to say the frame he rides has a shorter top tube because his arms and torso are shorter than mine.

With your existing bike, the above websites and a brain, you should be able to find the frame that you want. Take note of the overall reach on wrenchscience as I would say that is the most important measurement for someone who has proportionate body measurements.

    regards,
    Sean

  16. buy the carbonissimo, a colnago monocoque frame

Well, by posting under the title "Colnago C-50", rather than "Frame sizing info requested" you sort of opened the door to getting a lot of responses with opinions on the Colnago C-50. After all, this is the "Cycling Equipment" forum!

As for my thoughts on your question, I agree you should try several of the numerous online calculators, and get one professional fitting on top of that.

I hope you get a frame that fits perfectly.

I think he should just buy a 58, and if it does not fit,he can give it to me. 😄
