I'm looking for a wireless computer with basic functions (time, speed,
max speed, avg speed, odometer, tripmeter), plus a thermometer. I don't
need or want to pay for advanced functions like an altimeter, heart
rate monitor, support for 2nd wheelset, cadence, etc.. Anyone have any
suggestions?

I had the same wish list a few months ago. The only wireless one I could
find with a thermometer was a YPK CronoMaster. No probs with it so far apart from the Max Speed sometimes reads way over
what I could have done, but from browsing the groups it seems like this is a
generic problem especially with wireless.Oh and the setup sequence is a real pain, you have to completely reset
everything to change anything e.g. wheel size, current time and if you get
anything wrong you have to start all over again and it looses all the stuff
you put in."Mcfly" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

I have a Ciclosport CM436 which is wireless and has a thermometer, but it
also has altimeter and recording function. You could check their web site at
www.ciclosport.de to see if they have other models that keep the thermometer
and lose the other stuff."Mcfly" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

Vetta V100 shows up on ebay both with and without cadence. I have one
without cadence, works fine. This link might work:HTH,

be useful before a ride but once on the road the unit is in direct sunlight and
the temperature shown is much higher than it actually is. I would say that it
is about 6 to 8 degrees high. I would expect other computers to have the same
problem. The Vetta is an excellent computer and it only cost about $30.Neal

Cateye Mity 8. Wired, no thermometer, most inexpensive,
reliable. Wireless sets are inaccurate because local
electronics set them running, accruing distance. Also
maximum speed is often wrong even in the absence of bogus
external signalsGet a separate thermometer.

http://www.planetbike.com/computers.html --> much more expensive on the
website than it would be at a bike shop.

Well, since you went there... why not just forgo the thermometer AND
the computer? No computer has ever improved a ride for me.It's very difficult to follow cue sheets if you have no idea how far
you've traveled. You will also need to know what sort of average speed
you can maintain if you ever plan to ride with others.-Mike

In the desert it is a great value. I found out when the temp crests
over 110 on the computer, you have only so most time to reach your
destination, or take more breaks to cool down and drink. Commonly the temp
will rise from 80 in the morning, to 118 in four hours. You would be
surprised how at first your performance drops, and then it becomes a game of
survival. The temp might be a little on the high side, but remember you
arn't playing football on grass, you're out on a black asphalt road, that
you could fry on egg on. -
Thanks for all the input. I've ordered a Planet Bike Protege 9.0. It
has all the features I want, none of the features that I don't want,
with the added benefit that it shows 5 functions on the screen at once.
So I can see all the info I'm interested in without having to touch it.
The only issue is that it's not wireless, which isn't so bad. At least
I won't have to worry about the added complexity of the wireless
connection and an extra battery to replace. And it's way cheap ($20 on
jensonusa.com).My old computer has a thermometer, which is slightly inaccurate in
direct sunlight (as would a separate thermometer taped to the
handlebars). But I still find it very useful. -

I go for long periods looking forward to every ride... but there are also dry
spells when, somehow, there are so many other things that I should be doing -
like laying on my back, catching up on magazines... or watching the tube... or
doing email...I tell myself that I need a certain amount of exercise per day/week.
To that end, I keep a little chart/diary with mileage/times/trips to the
gym/windsurfing days, and so-forth.The details probably don't matter that much, but when I start seeing too
many/too big gaps, it helps with the required attitude adjustment.

Actually I'm more interested in the low temps than the highs. -

Good luck on that. Once you've had a thermometer, you get hooked on
them. One time I looked and it said 11 degrees. That's when I knew my mind
wasn't playing tricks on me, and I ran into a McDonalds to warm up.
