Off up to Coniston on Tuesday for a walk. Any ideas of car parking in the
area (free/cheap would be best). Going up to Wetherlam as a starter.

NY 305 012, opposite Tilberthwaite. Very handy for Weatherlam. Free IIRC.

Thanks for that Chris but I need somewhere in Coniston. Going to finish off
going over Walna Scar,White Maiden, White Pike and High Pike Haw.
Thought about the parking at2891 9705 but that seems a bit like cheating.

You'll be lucky! A lot of yellow lines there now! Only one I know of is

And expensive parking too. I had thought about the Walna Scar one but it
seems a bit like cheating there although the steep walk down into the
village at the end of the day would be avoided.
Thanks for the thought.

See now, it was always the steep walk up to the fellgate at the beginning of
the day I was always more worried about!

Very true but as my first hill was Wetherlam so that wasn't a
consideration.
It was a good day on Tuesday, blue skies all day but awful cold in the
wind.Lots of people about, which was a bit of a downer. Some people
definitely equipped for snow and ice ie axes and gaiters but these not
needed. Interesting finish off through Torver High Common. Need to go back
there to explore the old quarry workings.
