  1. I got 2 pounds of 21-25 frozen shrimp on sale yesterday. I'd like to
get opinions on which cooking method you prefer BETWEEN THE THREE I'M
    PRESENTING.

Cooking times are approximate. I know when shrimp is 'just right'

    Option 1.
Leave shrimp frozen in shell, boil in shell till done (5 min), and
peel while eating (w/lemon butter dipping sauce).

    Option 2.
Defrost first, boil in shell till done (3 min), and peel while eating.

    Option 3.
Defrost and peel first, boil till done (2.5 min), and scarf.

Note: IMHO, frozen shrimp should be defrosted under *cold*
running water. The process is surprisingly fast.

Option 2. They should be thawed first, and cooking in the shell imparts a
little flavour into them. Besides, if the other people eating them have to
shell their own it will save you the work of peeling all those shrimp, and
    it will slow them down.

So does that mean only version 1 comes with any sort of a sauce...

I like peel and eat style. I would pick option 2 and deviate by making a
    horseradish based sauce.

Defrost (in cool running water) and peel. Drop into boiling water and bring
to a second boil. That may do it for small shrimp; if not, watch carefully
because 2.5 minutes could be too much.

And, of course, you freeze the shells until you have enough to make a nice
    stock, don't you?

Boil, boil, boil. I'd peel them and grill them.

MCINL (My Choice Is Not Listed) 😉

But, If you've got 'em whole may I make a suggestion: Defrost them, slit
them, devein them, leave them whole.
Marinate them in some olive oil, minced garlic, maybe some minced ginger
and some lemon juice for a coupla hours.
Then saute them (whole) in a hot skillet, or grill them.
Peel them just before you eat them... and have with the lemon butter
    dipping sauce. Yummy.

Boiling shrimp that size (IMHO) is a waste of good shrimp.

It is fast. I do it a little different and put the shrimp in the pot
that will be used to boil them and add cold water. They thaw within a
    few minutes at most.

I've not tried it, nor don't know where I've read it, but I've read that
'any' fish can be cooked frozen and not suffer any taste loss.
I'm from the old school, so usually mine gets somewhat defrosted before it
    goes to the pan.

Options 1 & 2 are fine, either way. But don't peel the shrimp before
boiling, because a lot of the flavor will be lost. BTW, do you use a
"boil" of some sort, a.k.a. "crab boil" for spicing up the water?

Absolutely. I have a blend of spices similar to old bay that I use.

    Sometimes, sometimes not.

I like a horseradish based sauce also. Just not this time. Thanks for

OK. Discussion over. I boiled them from frozen and enjoyed the hell
    out of them.

As long as it's a left hand high five!! I had shoulder surgery on the right
yesterday. It's actually feels a whole lot better today than it did before
    the surgery at least.

I loooooooove grilled shrimp!!! I even bought one of those funky grill pans
with the holes just for shrimp.

I've never seen one of those grill pans. Do you have a picture of it?

There are all sorts of 'grill pans' available. Here are a few, for
    example - http://www.fantes.com/barbecue.htm .
