I got a pair of those this summer but was disappointed that they were not as
cool as I'd imagined. The thick spongy soles are very insulating and still
quite a lot of the upper foot is covered with material. /Now/ I understand
how some cyclists can wear them in the winter!

Maybe the older SD60 model is cooler with two narrow straps instead of three
wide ones?

Nike Alteas work well for me on that score, and won't break the
bank.

This time of year, though, I have the opposite problem: even with
thick socks on and booties over the shoes, my toes get cold.

My Alteas are the coolest shoes I've ever worn:

I suspect it's to do with the large mesh area in the toe. Other years
of Alteas have less mesh exposed.
