All,
I've got a creaking sound that I've isolated to my rear wheel, I've
come to this conclusion after switching rear wheels w/ my backup bike.
The custom built wheelset is rather new (3 months old) with about 300
miles on it. Everything was fine until a spoke broke at the head on the
rear wheel (cxrays). I got the spoke replaced unfortunately all the lbs
had was a DT aerolite. At that point I started to hear a creaking
sound. A week or so later I had the DT replaced with a cxray but sttill
the sound persists. I've switched out the cassettee as well but still
no luck. Current observations:
1) The creaking sound does not occur when freewheeling
2) The creaking sound does not occur consistently (ie with each pedal
stroke at a certain position) it comes and goes
3) The creaking sound usually appears under low speed > 15mph, under
high power (climbing a hill) while in the saddle
I've tried placing prolink on the eyelet area, where the spokes cross
and at the head of each spoke and still no luck. I'm about to get the
wheelset rebuild just to get ride of this annonying sound. Any help
would be greatly appreciated...
