Not sure who did the press release, but it must have slipped their mind
that Joe Anthony, Josh and Jesse's dad, was doing kids races there
years ago.
This is where we got the idea and encouragement from. Glad to see that
they are able to do them again this year.

I think it's great that Essex County Velo is getting the kids involved
in cyclocross racing. It's important to think about the younger
generation in events like these. My club used to promote motocross
races and we had classes for kids. One of them grew up to be pretty
good. He became a factory rider for Kawasaki and won a supercross
title. His name was Jeff Emig.

you have no idea what you're talking about. Every year a local bike fest
in Stanley Park features a kid's race to go along with some more boring
criteriums.

I have it on good authority that the kid's race is a bigger chaos-fest
than a citizen's race with a mandatory crank-injection at the startline.
Crashes, random riding, varied abilities, super-focused little tykes:
hilarious!

No seriously, anyone who has a chance should watch one of these things.

Our club couldn't do a kiddie-cross due to insurance considerations,

guy turned out OK. Seriously though I'm right in the area for Southwick
and they do a great job getting young kids out riding and MX racing. A
lot of those little kids are totally amazing.

crit pro is being a tool as usual. the kids race was A HOOT, and I
spoke with three people after who were there pretty much because it was
a nice day and they heard of the kid race and brought along the kids.
Not wives of cyclists at all. Everyone said what a fun thing it was to
watch, etc.

The only people who dont find joy in watching little kids ride bikes in
the park are your typical arrogant, self centered, its all about me and
my race, middle of the back of the pack category 1 cyclists.

On that topic, while i was in the hamburger line, which happened to be
NEAR the course crossing just above the start finish, I was talking to
one of the non cyclists mom's there with her little boy. As we were
waiting, THREE elite men, none of whom I recognized (read pack fill)
rode their bikes THRU the line for hamburgers, not getting off, track
standing, etc. making people back up and grab kids and make a hole for
them. It was the course inspection period and they were cutting the
course thru the expo for whatever reason.

That brought alot of comments from the people in line and left some
hard feelings. Nice, and thanks alot guys.

Again, just your typical cat 1/2 poser pro's trying to be too cool for
school. All the true pro level guys were very polite and friendly with
folks, talking to kids, etc. Must be they know where the paycheck
comes from. As opposed to those not good enough to get a paycheck.

i got the impression that the non cyclists types were pretty
intimidated. I gave them a "pardon us" as they went thru, but I am a
sarcastic jerk not really a confrontationist.
