My Bontrager Race Lite CX bars have a "sort of" a criterium bend:
larger radius in the first bend (counting from the stem). Only listed
in 25.4 though.

There are two things I do not understand about handlebars:

1.) Why aren't there any custom fabricators who also heat-treat their
bars.

2.) How does one look at pictures or even diagrams w/ dimensions like
the above Bontrager & have any idea what they are buying. I've looked
at diagrams only to see the real thing & be very surprised. For example
what is the angle between the dropped portion of the bar and the
portion above it. I have seen bars that appeared in print to be almost
parallel, but in reality to have quite divergent angles. But that's not
the only part of a bar that has surprised me.

Well, at least for the Bontragers, you can go into your local Trek shop and
have a good chance of finding one in real life. The CX bars that someone
spoke of would be found on the Trek or LeMond cyclocross bikes.

I've been slowly using up my stock of crit bend bars - Mavics and 3ttt. The Mavics were discontinued and I got as many as I could when that happened (two), and I have both mounted on current bikes. I saw a used one on ebay go for $75 or so. The 3ttt is, I think, the Felice Gimondi model. I also have two of those, but both are sketchy after crashes, being the superlight aluminum. In the off season I've been switching to a square bend bar just to "save" my crit bars.

I also have some Cinellis but I cut them all for bar ends (pre-STI/Ergo) and they are somewhat unusable. Plus they're 26.4mm.

My body geometry and riding style are such that even with crit bend bars I will bruise my forearms in sprints. With "square" bars, I bruise them whenever I use the drops aggresively.

I have been unable to find any source of new crit bars. With crit bars being unavailable for something like 10 years, I think there is a HUGE pent up market. Just check out ebay and the like. Oh and pictures of pros, esp those who sprint - they're getting them from somewhere as well.

Anyone listening? Deda? ITM? 3ttt? Ritchey?

Ritchey and Deda make non-anatomic bars. Not criterium bend though.
