  1. The outsourced buffoons do it again. I got a letter today saying my
membership is due for renewal and it will cost me £32.

I'm actually paid up to September and that's what it says on my card.
    Anyone else?

Yup, somewhere near Christmas, and I didn't notice and I've over paid them.

And they keep forgetting about my daughter. which is odd because I
find it very hard to forget a 13 year old.

Anyway, this is the second time I have had to send off her details in
    the last three years.

I've just renewed my family membership. I phoned them a couple of weeks
ago because the expiry date was coming up and I hadn't heard anything.
The renewal bumph arrived the day before the expiry date. Talk about
    cutting it fine!

It would seem worth popping bit of complaint to the CTC re this
    sort of thing.

It would seem that the people dealing with the membership stuff aren't
quite up to scratch. Hopfully the CTC will be onto their case about it,
but complaints about this from members may help them.

Yes, which in my case is fine because I did forget to paid when my renewal
was due about half a year ago...

I had an ongoing argument with CTC during the year who tried to make out
that Vernon, Nathan & I didn't qualify for family membership.... phoolz.
It took *months* to sort it and get them to admit that husband, wife &
teenage son all at the same address do indeed qualify for family membership.

Is it out-sourced? That might explain why the person who took my call
also seemed a bit off-hand. She wasn't actually rude but she didn't
have the manner I'd expect from the employee of an organisation dealing
with one of its members. Or indeed of one cyclist talking to another.
It was as if my call was rather too much trouble. I just assumed I'd
caught her on an off day. If it's an organisation the CTC is paying to
run its membership system then a complaint is definitely in order.

    Yup.

I had a lengthy and tortuous wrangle in trying to put two memberships on one
credit card account, something I have done for years. It go so bad that in the
end I wrote to Kevin Mayne the director.

I agree with one poster that they don't seem to really give a stuff.

  11. If you have family membership, then you will only get one membership
card, unless you ask for them all. [ there is meant to be a letter with
    the renewal stating this ]

I kept trying to join using their website a while back. After numerous
attempts and great uncertainty as to whether my card was being charged
each time, I moaned about it all on the urbancyclist-uk list. A senior
CTC bod obviously read the list as I received a personal letter from (I
    forget the name) shortly afterwards.

To which the CTC did not tell this member when she made her renewal over the
phone. Communication is not one of the CTC's strong points at times.

The renewal bumph arrived the day before the expiry date. Talk about
    cutting it fine!

So this morning I receive a letter dated 26 January warning me that my
membership is about to lapse and enclosing a new card that becomes valid
once I renew, which of course I already have. As Pete Whelan mentioned
there are no cards for the rest of my family.

I'm a bit confused now. The renewal bumph I received earlier may have
been triggered by my phone call, although I certainly didn't get that
impression from the grumpy woman who took it. She just advised me to
wait and see what happens. The latest letter may have been time
triggered and may have been generated just before my telephone credit
card renewal although it looks as though it was generated the day after.
What about the limbo period between the previous expiry date and the
date of the latest letter? Say I had had an accident during that period.
Would my legal cover and 3rd party insurance have been valid?

The system seems to be designed to weed out the less determined cyclists
from the membership list, and I don't think it's doing the CTC any
favours. If it is an outside company handling it for the Club as Chris
believes then they're not earning their fee.

  16. Dave,

I don't know what area you live in, but as well as feding back such
problems direct to HQ (Sue Cherry is a good contact at HQ), also make
sure your Regional Councillor knows about it as well. The more the
problem is highlighted, the better for all mambers.

Absolutely, but they keep reducing us to a family of three from a
    family of four.
