One would expect an organisation that is worried about losing existing
memebrs to send out renewal notices in a timely manner. So I get
nothing at all and my membership lapsed a few days ago. Nothing on the
website about membership renewal.
One can only presume the new membership administration (it is
contracted out, is it not?) need a serious bit of backside kicking.
Having just got bike down from the loft, polished my cycle clips and
rejoined CTC after an absence of several years I must say I was a little
disappointed by the changes in CTC (and not just the silly new logo):
- No more shop in Godalming full of all those often esoteric or
old-fashioned things that you might just need one day, just a bog standard
reduction off the bog standard mass-market kit sold by Evans.
- I'm sure when I joined in my youth I received tons of bumf including a
little handbook. All I got this time was a few bits of junk mail called a
"Welcome Pack" containing almost no substance whatsoever (and a leaflet
offering me yet another bloody credit card!).
- And a month after I paid I've yet to receive a copy of Cycletouring, or
whatever the magazine may be called these days.
No doubt someone will tell me that CTC had to "modernise" to attract younger
members, but so far I'm not too impressed. Never mind - the bike's just
fine!
