Cwm Pennant

Although I have never started any walks in Cwm Pennant I have found myself
there a number of times. It is possible to climb Moel Hebog via Cwm Lefrith
or pick up the disused railway track heading southwards then up the valley
with Llyn Cwmystradllyn in.
You of course have access to the Nantlle ridge, which you could walk in both
directions.
Every time I have walked around here I always promise to come back as it is
a wonderful place and think it deserves more popularity but then that would
spoil the magic of course.
Bob Allens book" On Foot in Snowdonia" would be worth looking at I think he
gives about six walks starting in Cwm Pennant.
Sod the chippy and take a barbecue with you.

It's a great place, Cwm Pennant, though not sure how they respond to
being called part of Snodnia :-)

I've walked up to the Bwlch-y-ddwy-elor from Pennant, and from there
you can certainly access Trum y Ddysgl on the Nantlle Ridge. The map
shows a criss-cross of walls though, all over the Pennant side of the
ridge, so not sure you'd be able to get off the ridge again without
following the right of way shown threading its way south to SSE from
Garnedd Goch, finishing up at the SW end of the Pennant valley.

Would certainly be interesting to try to climb Hebog via Moel Lefn and
Moel yr Ogof - it looks like pretty rough country on the map, and
there are certainly some old slate workings there, though it's nowhere
near the scale of the Bethesda or Llanberis areas. You then have a
nice right of way down into Cwm Lefrith.

Cwm Pennant is a fantastic place and there a very many combinations that can
be put together flexibly to include sections of the Moel Hebog range and the
Natlle ridge.

A good place to park is 530 466, from here either ridge can be accessed and
you can do either ridge and come back down the valley or do the whole
circuit.

Try eating at Eric Jones's cafe at approx 575 405 just East of Tremadog, you
wont get better value and there are lots of interesting posters of his
expeditions.

Amazingly, the North Welsh have discovered customer care over the last
decade (there's hope for us all). You should a good time.

Get hold of Steve Ashton's 'Ridges of Snowdonia' and/or 'hills of Snowdonia'
- both Cicerone Guides. Should give you everything that you need.
