Just wondering, does anyone know if there exists a computer that will not only record your current/max/average speed, distance, etc. but can take periodic snapshots of your current distance, time elapsed and current speed and save all this info to a solid state memory device? Then you can download all the info to a computer and view a log of your ride at your leisure.

There is a product called Bikebrain which turns a Palm PDA into a cycle computer and thus you can pretty much do anything you want with the data. Probably overkill if you don't already own a Palm but it doesn't exactly need a modern all-singing all-dancing PDA.

Cateye has the CC-TR100 apparently due out in June The blurb says it includes: Current Speed Average Speed Trip Time Total distance Current Heart rate Average Heart rate Calorie Consumption Current cadence Average cadence Total pedal revolutions and "many many more"
and also....
"The TR100 also includes a full range of lap counter oriented functions for maximum information feedback. The five window display can show six different readouts as well as recording training data in a choice of 1, 5, 10 or 30 second intervals with a memory of up to 150 hours." "This information can then be downloaded to a PC or Mac using the optional download kit for a full review of training data. Alternatively the TR100 can be connected to a computer during turbo training for real time data gathering." "Other unique features include a back light, coded wireless heart rate transmitter, four heart rate zones, one cadence zone and a remote button for ease of use as standard"

Have you considered a cheap GPS ?
You would be able to transfer the GPS track to your PC and use it to obtain the information you want.

My Polar S710 does all that, and makes pretty graphs of it too!

Ebuyer have some PalmIIIxe (£35 +VAT) going very cheap which would be an ideal PDA for such an exercise.

Polar S710 HRM does altitude and heart rate too
Now replaced by the Polar S720i apparently.
I must admit I hadn't realised that there were so many good cycle computers out there now. Rather puts my 8 function (I think) halfords cycle computer in the shade!
