so, I took your advice, and popped into Aldi this weekend, where I picked up a wireless cycle computer for £14.99, which seemed reasonable enough. I could have had a wired one for £3.99, but as I hope to change bikes soon, I figured wireless would be easier.....
Yesterday I went out for a couple of hours in the glorious Sunday morning sunshine. I did 25 miles, in 1 hour 40 minutes, I averaged 15.3 mph, and my maximum speed down the most glorious hill locally, was 31.6 mph. All this in 29C. Ooh, I do love having a new toy to play with 🙂 Now I can compete with myself and try and do better next time!
Cool, just found out there's an Aldi near me - will have to do likewise!

I find bike computers invaluable for long Ventoux style climbs.Fixing on a comfortable speed and keeping to it,even if you could go faster,makes even the gnarliest climb a doddle. I love the wireless ones.It means you don't have to wrap the excess wire round your brake cables like some lycra-clad basket weaver.

FWIW it was an Aldi wireless computer which reported I had done 3+ miles whilst it was on a table. The bike was 10ft away and wasnt moving either! This was after 3 days of fairly horrendous rain but even so it shouldnt do that :-)

FYI, my wireless Filzer computer will go BONKERS when near a WiFi card or base station. It reports upwards of 78km/hr when near my laptop. 😉
Only took a move of about 5 feet to stop the madness. (glad I record the odometer after each trip 😉

Last Friday while out sunburning myself on the road bike my wireless Lidl computer showed a max speed of 28 mph after a welcome downhilly bit, but magically jumped to 54 mph during the ensuing tea stop.
Other than that wee glitch, still exceedingly handy wee things.

Me too! I've got the Aldi one. It shows fantastic speeds when anywhere near a computer, even without a wi-fi card, while stopped at level crossings as trains go past, while slowly passing queues of traffic when someone is using a mobile phone in their car - in fact most places where there is any form of localised radio transmission ;-)
I wonder if that's why the higher-end wireless models (Cateye etc) market themselves as "digital."
By that I assume they mean there's a specific code used in sensor/computer communication to prevent interference. (or they could all do just the same thing and we really did get good deals on our wireless comps... 😉
