does any one know where I might purchase a cycleops riser block in the UK or Ireland?

I don't know about the UK but in the US a piece of 2x4 lumber works just about perfectly. A 2x4 actually measures 1 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. I'll let you figure out what you'd have to find in the UK to be equivlent.

Try www.cyclesuperstore.ie, they are in Tallaght in Dublin. They definately have riser blocks, I have a one bought there not sure what brand though.

I use an old set of bathroom scales under my front wheel. Try to keep the needle steady as you pedal, makes you a smoother peddlar.. 😄 You will be amazed just how much energy is wasted in the front wheel.

www.wiggle.com sells them - I personally use an old phone book - though I feel this may exacerbate the problem george mentioned about losing energy through the front wheel due to it's compressibility
Thanks to all who replied - I have used blocks of wood, turf birquette and phone book - the first two seem to end up in the fire more often than not
Happy miles (KM)

What a cool idea - what do you consider a good measurement of how steady you are holding it? I gave it a try with an old art deco scale that I was going to restore, but never got around to (its a cool chrome one - but its best feature is a huge magnifier on the dial so I can see the numbers easily). I've been working on my spin and I was able to hold it to about 3-4 lbs of variation/ pedal stroke (I think my left leg is the stronger one). What should I be aiming for?
If you are cleatd in, as smoothe as possible, up and down, look for an improvement over time... 🙂
