well back to the question... this what i learned past few years... when it comes down to cycling, there is one thing that you need to know. you get what you pay for.

i like pearl's 3d shorts or bibs... i prefer bibs than shorts too... more comfy.

Those are the bib shorts I wear. They are pretty comftorable. I used to use some old non bib shorts and they were definetly less comftorable. Bibs all the way.

can you tell me why these are better than shorts? Just your personal preference?

I'll be buying a pair or shorts or bibs within the next couple days and wondering which to purchase.

I'd imagine you wear a shirt or jersey OVER the bib?

Craft bib shorts... glorious.

As for the package issue, put a sausage in there? I'd watch out for dogs though...

Bib dude, no nasty chafing waist elastic, and they prevent pokie nipples on the descents!

(err, I wear Assos, as IO have more money than sense, but it feels mighty nice!)

Search on bibs vs. horts in this forum. This question comes up once a wek, but I'll give you the summary ... bibs all the way. Shoes, gloves and bibs/shorts are the 3 areas where your body contacts the bike and you want to be sure all are very comfy. The key is a dcent pad with som type of topography instead of a flat pad. Lots of places like Performance/Nashbar has gneric house brands that are quite good.

Bibs are a definite improvement - I just started wearing them this spring. No more elastic chafing, or slipping down your butt.

Bet you can pick up a deal on Phonak bibs right about now...

Tried a lot, but Assos F.1. Mille bibs were the best and they come in a lot of colors. Was wearing the yellow ones when I broke my hip and the material is as good as new in that spot. Don't forget to use chamois cream.

I will second the F1 Mille bibs. I have several pairs of each of four different models of Assos bibs and the Milles are my favorites. You can pick them up out of the U.S. for a somewhat reasonable price.

I don't use chamois cream. I think that is more of a personal issue. Depending on the susceptibility to abrasion, saddle sores, etc. you might not need it or you might need to use it religiously.

I already posted that the Assos F.I. Mille were the best bibs I ever wore, but I just remember that a bicycle magazine tested a lot of bibs several years ago. While Assos got first place, DeMarchi Contour was a very close second and were priced much lower. I would have tried them but I already had plenty of Assos.

THE most expensive? I have friends whose yearly golf membership is more than the cost of my bike. I wouldn't mind a new bike every 12 months.
Looking at it another way, every time I ride to work, it's saving me almost $10 in petrol.
By the way, I wear bibs too. No cream.

Nas_kaj**, I recommend the Performance Century Gel Bib for you. Performance has them on sale for $50. They use a fairly heavy fabric so should last a long time. Gel pad is thick so they are comfortable and will enhance your package (maybe not like enzyte). Surely not the best or most comfortable bib out there, but inexpensive and high value. Btw, I don't use butt cream with them.
