Here in the 'Banana Belt' of the Intermountain West it is currently
12F. It seems like the furnace is running constantly. I'm thinking
lentil soup today. Or maybe split pea, we haven't had that in awhile.
I really should do hash with the leftover beef pot roast but I'm not

too many times already.

Today it's 32ºF with a forecast of high 35 & snow. DH has decided the
furnace is making too much racket. (I've told him since November it's
making too much racket) and has decided to shut down. Now we are without
a furnace on the main living floor. He ran to the hardware to get some
'nuts and bolts' none of which fits. He said, "You may have to go to the
other floor to stay warm." Good show!

It was -3 when I went out at noon today. Current temperature is 1°, I
don't know what the high was today buy I'd guess it was 2 degrees. I
didn't expect it to get above zero today.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has trouble breathing when it's
hot. :-) That's why my power bills are a bit high during the summer. I
run the AC set no higher than 72!

It's a fight with my dad sometimes about running too much heat in the
house in the winter. He likes to run around in minimal clothing, then
run the damn heat! :-P

It also costs a LOT more to run the furnace than the AC.

I don't even pay attention to the cost. I want to *breathe* dammit.
I think the carpet thread said it all. Nasty stuff.

left in like... what... 15 minutes? The whole thing was odd. It is now
officially cold IMO.

We had a _gorgeous_ day here; clear blue sky, 26C (that's 79F). Then
again, it's late summer here -- 9.45pm and it's only just got dark.

Yea, it got down to -20F for the first time this winter - first time in a
couple years, actually - about 20 degrees warmer than winters have been in
the past. Had to have oatmeal for breakfast that day.
Flu is up 300%, the U says it's because of the warmer air (we barely got
down to 10F all winter). I have a hunch it might in some part be the
medicinal brandy used in the really cold weather.
Ice fishing and sled runs called off because of the heat. The return to
normal is welcomed.

But when the wind chills get down around -60 to -70 (old -80 to -100) , I
just pull out a recording of the "weatherman's" hourly report I made from
northern Greenland, up near the pole, as one of the local storms was in its
late stages and subsiding -

"-65F, winds 160 (miles per hour), gusting to 190"

PS - coldest I have ever been was in San Diego at MCRD on guard duty - heavy
fog and forty and you couldn't see five feet - my bones hurt in that cold
damp stuff.

PPS - Here, one January years back, it never got above 0F. Now it's rare to
see -20 for even one night. It is definitely getting warmer.
