Did you look up Deer Valley ski area in a search engine?
That would be the obvious thing to do. Though I can't
imagine a ski area that doen'st allow snowboards to allow
mountain biking...

The second two factors do for the most part. Riding in the
Park City area yields some decent trails as far as the
terrain goes, but everywhere you look from up high yields
masses of (in)humanity. You're either looking at ski lifts,
Heber City, Park City (and the mormonic McMansions that
surround it) or the SLC Metro. Add that with crappy beer and
the plague and it doesn't really matter, it'll suck. You may
as well be riding the SJT in SJC and having good beer
afterwards.

You can escape the plague in certain places and BYOB, so it
does not go for all of Utah. I'll post pics from my pending
"weekend" in a remote corner that yields wild and uncrowded
high country trails when I return next week. GT will be
interested in the outcome.

search engines ever. Of course I looked up google. I just
thought that some actual bikers on here might know any good

I don't know the legal issues, but it is sort of expected in
Utah. we always bring our own. No one is going to care,
unless you are caught drinking it while driving around,
which is a problem anywhere in the US. I believe that all
the beer is 3.2%. Sucks!

how many good spots in Deer Valley can there? It's an uber-
manicured ski area fer chrissakes. No snowboards allowed,
valet parking, EVERYTHING is groomed... I dunno what kind of
mountain biking you would expect from a place like that.
Many years ago we skied there with Mr. Adventure's parent (
their idea, not ours) and when Craig faced planted due to
going too fast on super steep groomers, they came out with
shovel to cover up the little bloodstains in the snow!!

It's a misdemeanor in Utah to consume alchoholic beverages
that have not been taxed properly by the brigham youngsters.
If a cop is not nice (no shortage of those in UT), they can
and will press the issue and you will be cited.

as long as you escape the crowds. The Wasatch is only
different from SoCal in that the plague is prevalent, the

My wife travelled in Utah long before she met me an has some
bizarre stories. At midnight all wine glasses are emptied
from wine glasses into plastic mugs because one can´t drink
wine from glass afte midnight etc, etc.

altitude. That the best Utah rides, Moab and other
desert spots, is high and pleasantly cool in July and
August comparable to the Salida, Durango, Crested Butte
etc., in fact the riding is so good there that I can
live without beer.

Perhaps I misunderstand Per, and I know you were in this
area last summer, but Moab is not the same temp as Salida,
Durango or Crested Butte, most anytime of the year. And even
when it is, it is not the same feel, reflection of heat from
all the rock, as it were.

You can posess untaxed alchohol if you are passing through.
Just don't have any empties, or be consuming.

Not a huge difference in altitude between the Wasatch and
the San Bernardinos or San Gabriels. The Wasatch only get a
couple thou higher at the most. Moab is not high enough to
be cool even now. There are more high spots in UT that are
remote and not a crowd scene like the Wasatch. Check your
hotmail account.
